We booked in for 3 nights after spending a week in really grand style at the E&O Hotel - so I had some trepidation as to whether the place would be acceptable.

Much to my surprise it well exceeded expectations, providing a relaxing and comfortable homely environment where seemingly nothing is too much trouble. Guests can really get away from the madness in town after traipsing around all day shopping and seeing the sights.

Whilst the air conditioned room was comfy and cool, as well as spacious, the best part was sitting out in the well ventilated and breezy verandah area getting fresh air and a reel feel of the tropics. I bought a couple of bottles of white wine which were chilled and served on request so my wife and I could enjoy a pre-dinner drink without paying crazy prices for wine in Malaysia (20-30 MR for very ordinary stuff).

The staff were all very helpful and cheery, and the location is close enough that stepping out to sample the nightlife is easy, but the noise factor is very low.

I can highly recommend this place - it was certainly wonderful for a romantic couples stay.

We loved our 4 night stay at 23 Lovelane: there is so much more to it than meets the eye from the road. This boutique hotel occupies a surprisingly large site in the heart of Georgetown within minutes walking to the cafes, bars, streetfood vendors, museums, street art and so on. The building is beautifully restored and has a fascinating history. The furnishings and an eclectic collection of artwork create a unique ambience; plus, it has a gated garden and central courtyard and even a reading room upstairs. Afternoon tea and breakfast were part of the package. The staff are delightful, helpful and unassuming.
We had the Indian garden room on the ground floor, which has a huge bathroom with a re-purposed tub - we felt like we were bathing outside.
The air conditioning was loud and the bed a tad firm but the unique setting and furnishings made up for it. We didn't hear any street noise from our room.

Room tip: Try the Indian garden room

Location is great for a tourist, but it could be noisy at night and early in the morning. Hotel is close to main road.
Not much facility in the hotel as this is a heritage building.
Breakfast was average.
No more l'occitane toiletries in the bathroom.

Definitely a great stay, and the best sleep I have had in a long time. As it is a heritage hotel in Georgetown, don't expect a lot of modern luxuries. That said it is a super convenient location with a friendly and responsive staff.

The rooms are luxuriously large, and the public areas feel as though you are in your own comfortable home. The library area, despite the heat, is a terrific place to sit and relax, as the ceiling fan and the breeze makes the temperature tolerable, and the couch is very comfortable. There are plenty of places to eat, drink, shop or whatever within a few minute walk, but it feels as though you are deep in the woods. Unfortunately only had breakfast one morning, but it was delicious.

There are a few small things that they could do to improve the experience. The bathroom, while comfortable, felt a little dated, and the drains appear to have never been cleaned (hair was clogging the drain). Also, soap ought to be replaced automatically each day, without having to be asked about.

Overall, it was a great stay, and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again on my next visit.

If you’re looking to escape the hot, bustling streets of Georgetown without travelling miles out to a fancy hotel there you absolutely have to stay at here. The rooms are beautifully decorated. I stayed in Jacks Roof; super comfy bed and gorgeous bathroom with great toiletries.
Breakfast is delicious, continental or order from the menu; pancakes, omelette, full fry up.
The staff are so helpful and friendly.

Enjoy!!
