Spacious but old. Musty smell. Bed is good. No slippers, two persons but one toothbrush. Housekeeping response very slow.

Great bar at roof top. Lobby music nice but no ambience. Breakfast is passable but book it with your room. It's more expensive if you pay separately

Hotel location near Red Garden food paradise. This foodcourt operation on evening only ,just walking 5-10 minutes. Around hotel is the office building.The room spacious big. The bathtub still old style. Many various breakfast menu. Yummy...

The hotel is conveniently located near the historical sights; most within walking distance - like the Blue Mansion that is just across the road. Built in the late 1970s, the hotel was formerly know as the Merlin Hotel. It was a grand hotel that boasts of a revolving restaurant. Almost 40 years on, the hotel has maintained its standards as a clean and comfortable hotel, both for business and for leisure. The rooms are spacious (unlike the shoeboxes of some new hotels); some rooms have nice ocean views and over looking the much more expensive legendary Eastern & Oriental Hotel.
The service is promot and friendly.

Room tip: Tips - there is a club at the basement of the hotel which may be a little noisy if you are staying at the lower floors just above it.

The moment i entered this hotel i felt very uncomfortable already first the bellboy never bothered to greet me & my companion & never even smiled at us then when were about to check inn already no one from the receptionisit greeted us too and even smiled at us, We went to their revolving restaurant & bar & no one from that bar greeted us too. I thought maybe it just happened to us but i searched some reviews from this hotel and read some negative comments regarding their rude employees, I've been travelling often & this is the only hotel i experienced this. I know because i used to work as a company receptionist/front desk officer too so i know how to greet & assist clients/visitors properly.Penang is known to have friendly people i dont know what happened to the people in this hotel,It seems that they're not happy on what they're doing being ungrateful of the job they have & it reflects on how they treat clients/visitors. I cannot recommend this hotel to anyone or my friends back home because how can someone enjoy their stay even if the hotel looks nice if the employees does'nt makes u feel comfortable.

I stayed here for a few nights whilst visiting my friends and family. I was located in a nice area with plenty to do and see within walking distance. But if you are like me and sweat slot in the heat, there is a taxi rank just outside. The staff were friendly, the buffet breakfast each day was nice. Music each night in the sicken lounge/bar was great. I will be definitely staying there again. Thank you for making my stay a pleasurable one. Ps the roof top bar is cool!
