LIKES.

The cost was very cheap (about half the price) compared to other similar standard properties located in central Georgetown (which is about 10 to 15 minutes away by public bus or taxi).

The location was fantastic with great access to public transport (bus and taxi stand) a few minutes walk from the front door.

A few minutes walk to 2 or 3 very large modern shopping complexes (eg. Gurney Plaza).

A number of very good restaurants within 5 to 10 minutes walk and a large Hawker style eating area within 5 minutes walk.

Security is excellent with a high wall surrounding and a gated access allowed only by a remote control that each guest is given.

Full use of the well stocked kitchen for those who want to prepare some /all of their meals. The kitchen also has 2 large fridge/freezers that guests are welcome to use as well as free tea and coffee available (includes a coffee machine, not just instant coffee).

A washing machine is also provided free of charge and ironing (for a small fee} is available if required.

This old, stately house (which has been converted into very nice accommodation) is surrounded by other very nice houses and is located in a very quiet, upmarket part of Georgetown.

The beachfront (with a nice promenade for walking) is about 5 to 10 minutes walk from the property.

DISLIKES

Although guests have access to a kitchen (on ground floor) a small refrigerator and coffee/tea making facilities in the apartment/s would be better (to allow a more convenient access at any time of the night or day).

There is also a very large, lovely terrace (leading directly from our room )which had a couple of chairs on it BUT no small outdoor table which made it difficult to sit outside on the balcony with a drink/snack and enjoy the view and ambience of their very nice garden and fountain.

Another small issue was the lack of English language channels on the cable tv.
They are on the tv but not subscribed to!
If the owners want to attract English speaking tourists then they need to add a few English speaking channels (perhaps a few news channels, current affairs, sport, etc).

The last "little negative" at the property is a lack of communication skills (ie. very little English spoken by the "live-in" staff.
The owners do not live on the property.
Although the staff are very friendly and helpful, their language skills make it difficult to obtain information (such as directions, questions about accommodation, recommendations on things to do/see, etc) without a phone call to the owner who can provide such information.

These mainly minor issues would certainly not disuade me from from recommending this property to other travellers and I will certainly stay here again next time I am in Georgetown, Penang.

Room tip: Try to get the 2nd storey room (the only one with your own balcony/patio (biggest room, cost AUD $35/night), excellent value.

The homestay is lovely - the owners are friendly and helpful and the room was a good size with aircon, towels and tea/coffee. There is a shared kitchen if you want to cook for yourself and a shared seating area in the garden. The bathrooms are basic but clean with hot water.
It is close to Gurney Drive and two large shopping malls so lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. However, it is quite far out of the centre of Georgetown (use Uber or GrabCar for a cheap ride in).

Room tip: Our room (room 5) is the cheapest option but still a good size and very clean

We stayed 5 nights here and it was one of the cleanest places we have been to during our travels. Friendly staff and atmosphere, comfortable rooms, place can be reached easily from jetty by public transport, shopping malls nearby. It's a great place and great value of money:-)

I & my family stayed here for 4 days and it's was satisfactory, the room was good although in the 2nd day, we moved upstairs and our second room it's AC was too hot and it leaked a little one night. Thanks to Free wifi, cooking facilities, and water drinking facility, we felt much better staying here

We stayed for three nights during the Chinese New Year. The place is close to Gurney Drive which is a well known tourist spot. A short walk to the nearby Pulau Tikus led us to various food outlets with good food and reasonable pricing.
We find our stay here comfortable and homelike, something not found in most hotels.
