We were so surprised with everything about this 4star resort. Everything was even better than all the info and photos on the internet. We stayed in one of the Hilltop Suites with the most superb view over the South China Sea and beach area. This accommodation is really so awesome that it blew our breath away! Although me and my husband did not celebrate our honeymoon, this setting is absolutely the most romantic place for honeymooners. The double storey suite is so spacious and beautifully furnished. From the kingsize doublebed you have such a relaxed view through the big glassdoors on the turqoise and calm sea.We just love sitting on our own stoep eating the delicious welcome-fruit and enjoying a nice cup of coffee while having definately the most beautiful view on the whole of the Damai Beach area. The jacuzzi bath was an absolute treat and oh such a spoil!! Buffet breakfast was each morning absolutely fantastic with such a wide variety of food - making it wonderful for tourists coming from many different countries to be satisfied with the spread put out. The Hilltop swimmingpool area is so peaceful. When being in the swimming pool the view onto the sea seems to be infinite, due to the picture perfect setting. This is really a must-visit place on any tourist's travel itinerary! Wishing daily to go back and enjoy paradise! This was one of the highlights of our 2 weeks travel in Sarawak, Malaysia. Thank you for a most memorable holiday at your resort. We will definately be back in the near future.

Went over for a weekend getaway with extended family. we had 3 chalets and an executive suite in total. Sadly, all 3 chalets were musky and smelt really damp :( we requested chalets by the beach and only got one, which was not facing the beach and did not get much light. The air conditioning for this unit was not working very well either even after we called to ask them to have a look. The neighbours were really noisy too, not sure if the walls are just thin of they were just plain loud! The dinner was a bit disappointing especially for the price, some of us had a la carte and some buffet. Ala carte was slow (around one hour) though they were not full and portions were medium (3 of us were still hungry after!) The staff appeared tired apart from 2 of the ladies who were extremely helpful (sadly forgot to take down their names) Breakfast was much better. Beach was lovely. the highlight : though double the price, the executive suite is worth it, its essentially 2 rooms, one living area, so great for gatherings esp when a big family's going. Also when travelling with toddlers, gives them a space to run around in. Also its linked to the hotel (unlike the chalets) so in case of unpredictable rain, you wont have to worry!

Spent 6 nights at the resort and it was pure relaxation with the pace of the resort and Damai. Rooms were well appointed, spacious and service was good. Staff were friendly, courteous and helpful. The only downside, I felt was this place is a wee bit old (26 years old?) and the facilities were a bit off. The gym was not functional with spoilt treadmills and weight machines. Air conditioning unit in gym was also broken. Food quality was ok overall but not fantastic. My ratings for this hotel is good and appropriate for it's rating.

The Damai Beach resort is a little worn, but I thought that the comfort of the hotel and the friendliness of the staff made up for it. After a long, long flight or 3 and a long taxi ride we were very tired when we reached the resort, but the staff were very friendly even when I had a problem with my credit card. They continued to be friendly and always helpful throughout the stay, though I can understand people's issues with the slow service -we often waited over half an hour for a sandwich, but as we weren't in a rush it wasn't really an issue for us! The room was a poolside room and on the bottom floor, which was great for us as we are not great walkers, it was a little old and shabby but very charming and malaysian. We had a queen bed each and both were very comfortable, the maid service was also excellent. The pool at the resort was a good size, and not too busy so I was able to use it for swimming with not too many screaming kids around, the only issue was the lack of shade by the pool, and we were told there was no sun shades available which led to burning, so this was disappointing.
The resort is really in the middle of nowhere (the Sarawak Cultural Village is nearby, a good morning out) so if you want a lively experience this would not be for you - however, we were happy to eat and drink in the hotel - food was a reasonable price, drinks were very expensive but we found this all over Malaysia.
We used the hotel as a base to travel from and relax in for four days, I think this is only a good hotel if you want to relax, but would definitely recommend it to others.

My family has stayed at the Damai Beach Resort 3 times in its former life as the Holiday Inne Damai Beach. We always booked the hilltop rooms and had an enjoyable stay on each occasion. The staff and facilities were always top notch. On returning to Kuching in April with a colleague we stayed at the sister property in the city centre,Riverside Majestic, formerly Crowne Plaza, and I decided to take the opportunity to go out to Damai.
I could not believe the change. While the grounds were as beautifull ,everything else has gone to the dogs. The area around the beachside pool was literally falling apart.Slate paving needs repairing, the decked area warped and had planks lifting off, part of the pool was taped off.,one of the pool ladders was actually falling out of the ground and there was litter everywhere.Over all ,the whole lobby area was grubby. The staff were just sitting around having a good time and we had to chase someone to order our food. When it came after 30 mins the order was wrong. How hard is it to make a triple decker sandwich? We ended up leaving. It is so sad that such a great property has been let to run down and I now understand why they are no longer managed by the chain.I am glad that I went out though because I no longer would reccomend it to anyone.
