Very nice batiks shopping at the Noor Arfa Craft Complex quite a few km south west of the city. It was somewhat confusing when we got there as where to go as the information/reception area was not manned at 10:20am. We wandered up the stairs and into what appeared to be a shop and were assured by the pleasant young women that yes, we were in the shop although it still is not clear to me where the Outlet Shop is - somewhere in KT city?? Watch the fabrics though - some batiks are imported from Indonesia (also beautiful but if you're looking for Malay batiks they are different) and some of the fiber blends are odd. The selection of 100% cotton items for women were few for the amount of product they had. Surprisingly the men's cotton selection was better. This is not just a tourist place, many more local women were shopping here, we were the only foreigners. If you join the Noor Arfa Privledges Club for 10RM you can get some good discounts on some items - for example one item I purchased was reduced by 50RM and another by 16RM - so well worth it. The women working here are very friendly, you can ask them for help and they are so willing to assist. Some have interesting stories to tell; a pleasant experience. But we still don't know where the Outlet was.

Thank Linda S

Our tour of Kuala Terengganu covered this craft complex, which is the largest producer of batiks in the country. We were shown the work area where a lady were weaving a batik that would take months to complete. There were many batik blocks made of bronze on display. Workshops for making batik are also taught in this complex but we did not have the time to stay and take lessons.
The showroom was where the ladies in our group had a great time shopping for batik tops, dresses, scarves and handicrafts.
Beside the complex, there are chalets near the river for rent.
A nice place for batik lovers!

We created our own batik cloth, each of us our own design, drawn with hot wax and afterward painted. It is a pity it still needs a chemical treatment before we can cook the wax out. we did not have time for that. We will do that at home. Very friendly people helping us doing this workshop.
Several demonstrations of handicraft like batik painting, weaving and plaiting.
The giant shop sells many professionally made textile, traditional and modern design as well as crafted souvenirs.
A great place to visit on a holiday! both for adults and childeren.
