Having read the recommendations below, our expectations were obviously very high, but in reality it was still better than anticipated!
We, a family with 2 kids of 2&6 years old, have stayed in Lyon-Mogador for 5 days. We stayed in several rooms (à.o. Family suite), which were all decorated with style and well cleaned every day.Except for some small hick ups in watersupply, the rooms were fine. Good breakfast at rooftop and childsplayground was also available. But, best of all was the French family, who not only helped with information where to go, but even did some dedicated babysitting for us. Being a frequent Moroco traveller, this was best value for money riad and can be highly recommended!

Starting positively, the breakfast was good, a good selection of fruit, muffins, croissants, good coffee, honey pancakes. The location is good, 10 minutes from the port, and lots of good places to eat nearby.
Sadly, when we were there, there were problems with the plumbing. Shower was cold water only for 2 of the 3 days, the drain in the shower would not empty, and on the last day, there was some kind of raw sewage problem across the hotel. I am pretty relaxed about plumbing in Africa, but this was frankly not good enough.
Our room was OK, but small. Bed was on the hard side.
It makes me sad to leave a review that is less than positive, but ultimately telling the truth to other travellers is the point of this site..

We stayed in Lyon - Mogador for one week. Compared to the five other riads we've visited Lyon Mogador scores the highest. The French management understands the word 'hospitality'. They wil do everything to make you stay as pleasant as possible. Personally, the breakfast is the best, with the great view on the rooftop.
Don't forget to ask Didier (owner) to advise you with the best places to eat and drink in Essaouira.

Highly recomended!

A Dutch couple.

It is in the medina so everything is within a couple of minutes walking. It is one of the grander buildings in the area, with a nice facade. The riad is not difficult to find (provided you have a google or other map first) unlike in some medinas: of course there is no car access since it is in a medina (you can hire a barrow man at the medina gate if you wish). We were welcomed with mint tea on the roof terrace, overlooking the whole town and the sea. The friendly owner then gave us all the information we wanted. The room we stayed in had an outside window (not always the case in riads) but there was no external noise in the night. The room was furnished with great attention to detail. There was a bath, shower, and hot water (the hot water pressure was low so a very deep bath was not possible). Breakfast was the best we found in two weeks in Morocco. While waiting in the entrance area lounge to leave we were again offered a mint tea and any help we might need. We would recommend this riad since (as well as being an excellent riad), the owners would sort out any queries/problems

I stayed at the Lyon-Mogador for two nights, and it ranks as one of the best places I have stayed at anywhere, ever. The hosts are extremely welcoming and friendly, and do anything in their power to make your stay in Essaouira as pleasant as possible, Breakfast is served at the roof terrace, from 8 am until everyone is finished, with an amazing view towards the city and the waves of the Atlantic. I would absolutely, definitely stay at this riad again, hopefully sooner rather than later.

We only stayed for one night, but wish we had more time to stay longer as it was my favorite riad of the trip...we stayed in 5 different ones.

The rooms were all very different, but all beautifully decorated with Moroccan themes and colors and were spotless.

The staff were all very friendly and the owner spoke very good english and explained about the town and good places to visit which was really useful. I felt very welcome throughout the stay.

The roof top terrace was amazing with a sea view and 360 degree view of the town and the breakfast was the best we had on our trip too.

Location wise it was right in the medina, but on a quieter street so no noise at night and about 15 minute walk to the start of the sandy part of the beach which was perfect for us.

Overall, excellent value for money, clean, comfortable beautifully decorated rooms with friendly and helpful staff and an amazing view from the terrace and best breakfast...couldn't ask fro much more...just wish we had more time there!

Room Tip: All the rooms we saw were equally good, all very different, but would have happily stayed in any of...

It is a beautiful riad. The staff is very friendly and gave us lots of good recommendation. The room is lovely and clean. Great breakfast. We enjoyed each morning on the roof, looking at the sea and enjoying the sun. I want to return and stay here again.
