“Just beautiful! A haven of relaxation in the heart of the busy Medina...”
Reviewed March 2, 2015 for a stay in September 2014

I stayed here with a group of girl friends last autumn, we had an absolutely perfect stay with Dar Qawi!

This Riad is in a great location on Rue de Agadir inside the Essaouira Medina, close to the shops, restaurants and the beautiful beach which makes journey's light, but it's away from the hussle and bussle of the busy main strip and quiet enough to feel like you're in own your own little paradise...

Inside, the Riad was very comfortable with stylish interiors, with a definite WOW factor when you first walk in to the lower floor. The lower floor has a traditional layout with a gorgeous fountain in the middle of the room, this was sprinkled with fresh rose petals each day of our stay! There is also a well stocked book shelf on the lower floor which was ideal as I love a good holiday read... most of the books were in English but there were a few other languages too.

The second floor leads you to the beautiful bedrooms, all comfortable in size and all connect to a balcony overlooking the lower floor and its gorgeous fountain. All bedrooms had their own bathroom, which was ideal for us as a big group and made things very easy in the morning times. This floor also has alot of room for luggage and storage, again - perfect for big groups.

On the third floor there opens out onto an outdoor roof top courtyard with access to the well-equipt kitchen and living room. This is where we had breakfast each morning, the high walls of the lower courtyard made it feel like a private paradise, with a few pot pants and little Moroccan window-esque shutters help you get a glimpse of the outside world - perfect for people watching!

Each day we were looked after my a house keeper who came each morning to cook us breakfast and make the beds, she was absolutely lovely and made us feel very at home!

I would highly recommend this Riad for groups of friends or families, as well as couples looking for a little space and relaxation (and a touch of luxury!) for their stay. Loved it so much and I can't wait to return.

“Extremely beautiful stay in an amazing Riad!”
Reviewed March 1, 2015 for a stay in September 2014

We had the most amazing week staying here, made some memories that will last forever! The location is great, staying in the main complex where there are plenty of places to eat, drink, shop and relax. It is super friendly and all of the locals were very nice. The Riad itself has been done out beautifully, you can tell a lot of time and effort has gone in to make it a relaxing space to live in with lots of attention to detail.
Zara the house maid was fantastic, cooking us delicious pancakes, freshly squeezed orange juice, pastries, fruit and fresh coffee to give you the best start to the day. Breakfast outside on the balcony in the morning was a definite highlight. Zara also cooked us a delicious vegetarian tagine for our first night there too which was great and meant we could just relax when we arrived.
The rooms are all nicely done and there is plenty of space to relax and unwind. Would love to visit again someday.

“Perfect stay- Highly recommend!”
Reviewed December 8, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

This was my third time in Essaouira, and my third stay at Riad Dar Qawi. What a beautiful and tranquil place it is! The stunning Riad and its surroundings create such a calm environment, and has been a perfect place for me to stay with my partner or friends.

The riad is very spacious and has two roof terraces, an upstairs lounge and kitchen. All the three bedrooms and half-bedroom, are on the first floor and all have their own lovely en-suite bathroom, and we all had our own bathrobes, and bath and beach towels provided which was a wonderful touch! The ground floor is a very spacious area and has another seating area with a small library and a tv. The riad is located very nicely within the medina with the beautiful beach around just a 5-10 minute walk away. The food and clothes markets are pretty much on the doorstep too.

The wonderful housekeeper, Zara, has taken such great care of me every time I have stayed at Dar Qawi, and the house was just as I expected it to be on arrival. Every morning Zara made the most wonderful breakfast consisting of freshly made pancakes or omelets, fruit salad and pastries, alongside the freshly squeezed orange juice and tea and coffee. Zara made up the bedrooms every morning while we were enjoying our breakfast on the roof terrace. Zara also made us an amazing vegetarian tagine one evening at a very reasonable price, which I highly recommend! She was also happy to do our clothes washing at a very low cost when we were running out of options!

It was really useful having the mobile phone supplied by the riad for our stay. It meant we were able to call Sandra, the housekeeper, or Redoin, Zara’s son, if we needed anything or had any questions about where was best to eat, or where we could go for some day trips. Sandra was able to book taxi’s for our arrival departure as well which was very handy.

Redoin, in particular, was on the other end of the phone at all times if we needed anything. He took me and my friends around the local markets to find some good bargains and we went on a lovely day trip exploring the souk and the cheese, wine, and argan oil factories. This day trip was very reasonable and was all arranged perfectly, the price of it also included our own driver for the day and a wonderful vegetarian lunch too which was catering perfectly for my friends and me. I would highly recommend going on this trip when you come and stay!

Everything went so smoothly for the moment we landed to the moment we left after an amazing week’s stay in this beautiful riad! I highly recommend this to anyone who is looking to stay in a wonderfully catered and beautiful riad during their visit to Essaouira. I am already planning my visit to Essaouira in the coming year, and I cant wait to stay in this beautiful riad again! Thanks for such a wonderful stay.

Until next time ☺

“An incredible experience staying in the beautiful Dar Qawi Riad, Highly Recommend!!”
Reviewed November 11, 2014 for a stay in September 2014

As soon as we arrived in Essaouira I was blown away by the warmth, the colours, and the textures of the old city walls and the shabby chic wooden turquoise doors. It was like a dream!
The Riad was a WOW as soon as we walked in. I stayed with 5 of my close girl friends and we felt very at home and well looked after as soon as we arrived. The Riad was absolutely beautiful, I loved the Moroccan decor especially the lamps and the down stairs bathroom is like something out of Aladdins cave- I loved it.
The bedrooms are a perfect size for people sharing. The beds were really comfortable, and rooms were cleaned and made every day. We had bottled water in our rooms which was really appreciated, we had our own robes, and there was plenty of beach and bath towels.
The house maid Zara was really sweet, she cooked us breakfast every morning and made us a delicious vegetarian tagine (highly recommend). Her son Redoin was very helpful with our stay, he organised our transport and our day trips and helped with anything we needed. He made everything so effort-less which was much appreciated in a new city.

There is a shop just outside the front door so very convenient if you want last minute drinks etc. And there is a great Spa just around the corner where we had a traditional 'hammam' massage, which was an experience in itself and we all came out glowing.

The Riad is situated inside the Medina so the souks, restaurants and markets are all very close and easy to get to. The beach is only a few minutes walk and is famous for it's water sports and activities including; quad biking, camel and horse riding. Or if you wanted a more relaxing holiday there are plenty of sun loungers at the Riad or on the beach.

Dar Qawi is an incredible place to stay, and felt so at ease and comfortable there. There is everything you will need and more. Could not fault it in any way. Highly recommend and would love to come and stay again.
Thank you x

“Charming 'Shabby Chic'”
Reviewed August 27, 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Excellent location and tastefully decorated. Kitchen on top floor so we could cook in if we wanted. Redoin, the housekeeper's son, was absolutely brilliant assisting and advising us with activities and day excursions, a gem!
Bedrooms were a little small and each had an en-suite, the accommodation overall was charming. Really glad we were lucky enough to stay here as it was a true oasis from the hustle and dirt outside. The only concern we had was that although the house catered for 6 there was only comfortable seating in the sitting room for 4 as two of the chairs were too rickety for use and we were afraid we would break them if we sat on them, also the safe and the fountain did not work. That aside would happily recommend to others.

Management Response
29 Aug 2014
Thank you so much for your lovely review. In August the Essaouira 'council' sometimes cut off general water supply, so when this is the case we switch off the water fountain to prevent the pump from running dry and breaking. The safe does actually work. Perhaps you didn't find the instructions? I am sorry to hear about the arm chairs being rickety and will address that right away so that this will not cause problems in the future! Apologies for that. I hope you were comfortable nonetheless.

“Loved Dar Qawi”
Reviewed August 19, 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We had a wonderful time at Dar Qawi and Essaouira. We loved everything about this riad, it was beautifully decorated, had comfy beds and pillows, spotlessly clean, we enjoyed chilling in the living room upstairs, having plenty of bathrooms and lots of space so that we weren't always under each other's feet.

Zara's breakfasts and dinners were an absolute treat and Redouin was lovely and very helping showing us the shortcuts through the medina and to the beach.

Kia provided us with extensive notes about the riad and Essaouira and communication with her prior to the trip was excellent. I would definitely return to Dar Qawi for me it's the only place to stay in Essaouira, I don't normally give 5 stars for accommodation but I loved this road.

Liked best: The interior decor was very cool and calming. Also the Nespresso machine!

“Dar Qawi, a Riad with the WOW factor”
Reviewed July 4, 2014 for a stay in June 2014

Our first visit to Essaouira via Marrakech and we loved it and the icing on the cake was the beautiful riad we stayed in, Dar Qawi has been thoughtfully and tastefully furnished to a high standard and ticks all the boxes for a comfortable and relaxing holiday. Fresh flowers, towels and robes along with bottled water in each bedroom, breakfasts discreetly prepared by Zara the housekeeper every morning, all made for a wonderful experience. The riad is ideally located for exploring Essaouira being just minutes away from the centre of the medina, busy harbour, great restaurants and beach. For a modest cost, Zara will provide an evening meal, we can certainly recommend her tagines! Sandra, the agent for Dar Qawi was welcoming and handled our transfers efficiently, Zara's son Redouin was always available if required to arrange trips and activities etc, The friendliness and help of all made for a truly relaxing stress free holiday.
