Dominque and Caroline are the consummate hosts and their staff make you feel so welcome. The food is delicious- make sure you come back from your day of exploring for at least one, if not all your dinners in the house- I wager it would be difficult to find a better ambiance anywhere. Amazing dinners by the firelight, with Dominique’s eclectic music selection playing in the background- what could be better! The setting has been covered by the other reviews- pure tranquility, we have never seen so many stars in our life. Thank you Dominique and Caroline for your hospitality. Shawna, Ron & Eric

We stayed at Baoussala at the end of our month long trip through Spain and Morocco. The bottom line is this is a great place to stay if you do not want to be in the middle of the action in Essaouira. The accommodations were unique and relatively inexpensive. The owner, Dominique was very helpful in making arrangements and in making us feel welcome. She and her cousin Caroline operate the inn and do a great job. They provide wondrerful meals wherever you would like - in your room, in the courtyard, in the inn around the fireplace or on the rooftop terrace. They also were helpful in making recommendations for activities in town. The setting is very nice with trees with lots of birds. Very comfortable and clean bedding with interestingly appointed rooms. You feels as if you are in your own kasbah in the middle of Morocco....

One drawback is that Baoussala is not eay to find as there is poor signage and it is at the end of a several kilometer long rocky piste road. There is nothing around the hotel - it is out in the boonies but that is one of its charms unless you need action. Also their pool needs a little improvement - but we were not interested any way so that was not a concern for us.

Overall it was a great place and way to end our trip!

We booked our trip to Baoussala with our 8-month-old daughter on the back of the reviews on trip advisor and were not disappointed.
The atmosphere of the place, the friendliness of the staff, and the quality of the food make up for any shortfalls it may have in spadefuls. It is off the beaten track and unsophisticated, and we spent three utterly magical nights there and would love to visit again.
You can eat your candlelit three course evening meal below the starriest of skies, or your home baked breakfast in the central courtyard and be only twenty feet away from your room in case you have sleeping little ones to keep an eye on.
Dominique has plans to put in a larger pool and upgrade the bathrooms over the coming months, which will make this place perfect! Thank you Dominique and Caroline for making our stay so memorable.

We loved this place. It pays to hire a car if you are staying here - its about 5 miles out of town, down a very bumpy track. Once there though its an oasis of calm and peace and a must if you like animals! While we were there, there was a cheeky cat with 4 cheekier kittens, 2 lovely dogs - one of whom is best friend with a little donkey who sits outside the gates every day. Beautiful to see! On our first night we relaxed in the lovely cosy sitting room; candles were lit around us then the fire was lit - it was just like Christmas. After a delicious supper a member of staff played his guitar (Moroccan stylie) and we sat in the moonlit courtyard and listened. When we got back to our room a little basket of wood had been put outside out door so we could light our own fire. (Marabout suite). A real home from home.
