Tropic Star Lodge has been on my list for years. Took my son on the hunt for adventure. The staff is incredible at every turn. Richie White runs a perfectly timed symphonic blend of precision and accommodating requests. Patterson, Richard and Marvin all made everlasting impressions. Food service, accommodations and the Fishing! Whoa do these captains and mates know their business! Captain Mario and mate Ermel helped us land every fish we had hoped for...and then some! This is one place we will be returning to and bringing others to experience. Thank you for creating amazing memories.

I have been to Tropic Star Lodge twice in the past 3 years. It's perfection, pure and simple. Amazing fishing, a jungle-elegant property, delicious meals, and great bars/pool to kick back and unwind after long days at sea. Richard and the entire team do an incredible job making this an unforgettable experience. If you are lucky enough to be in a position to stay at Tropic Star, don't hesitate: life is too short and experiences like this are what it's all about :)

Tropic Star is a magical place. From the sweeping vistas to the stunning fishing, the experience of Tropic Star is THE best on the planet for any adventure seeker or angler. The fishing is a spectacle combination of on and off shore fishing Fishing depending on the season and the crew are experts in their respective fields. Not only is the fishing good, you’re also well taken care of whilst on the water for the day. With daily lunches and snacks packed with fresh homemade bread, fruits, empanadas (you MUST have these) you never return to the dock hungry, or with an empty boat. If travelling with a larger family who may not be so keen on fishing there is a stunning spa and multiple day trip activities including kayaking, hiking, mountain biking and swimming.

Above everything, and it’s seriously hard to beat the fishing, the staff is incredible. I have been 4 times and after the first I already felt part of the family. I can safely say Tropic Star has the best staff and service of all places I’ve ever visited. To be clear, it’s not the best just because it’s the most luxurious (you’re in the jungle but even then it exceeds most 5 star resorts) it’s the best because the level of service and commitment to greatness far exceeds anything I’ve seen worldwide. The staff truly care for your wellbeing, day in day out.

Most importantly, don’t let the journey down there put you off - the flight into the jungle and the stopover in Panama City is all part of the adventure - no need to be in a rush, enjoy every minute of it.

- Sam

Dear samuellY6616NV,

Thank you for your kind words and review of Tropic Star Lodge. We’re happy to know that you feel the same way as us! This lodge is a very special place with a magical quality with its unique location in the Darien Jungle with no roads for over 100 miles. We are so proud of our fishing crews and staff so thank you for taking note of their abilities and highlighting the service you received.
We agree, empanadas are a must out on the water!

All the best,
Mallory and Richard White

Went with a group of friends. Our goals were to A. have a good time, and B. catch fish! TSL made sure that we accomplished both of these goals!!! Travel to the lodge was an experience.....we were picked up at Panama City airport and fast tracked thru customs with ZERO issues! Picked up curbside (bags sitting there waiting on us!) by a van and taken directly to our hotel, or so we thought....note to self, there are several Marriot Hotels in PC, be sure you know which one you are going to....ended up being dropped at the wrong hotel! Our group was all pretty well traveled, so we just hopped a taxi and made it to the correct hotel without any issues. For me, these are the experiences that you will tell stories about....so we rolled with the punches and continued to have a good time! We called TSL and made sure they knew where to pick us up the next morning, and the rest of the trip to the lodge was an easy experience!

At the lodge, the rooms were not luxurious, but very nice. Clean and comfortable bedding, all plumbing worked, safe worked, AIR CONDITIONER was great; so although not luxurious it was really EXCELLENT. Food and service while staying at the lodge was fantastic. Great menus, great staff, and great conversations with other guests and staff at the lodge. Never had a big issue with the lodge, and the minor issues or requests would be handled immediately. Can't really ask for anything more than this!! The pool (and poolside bar) was a really nice place to hang out after a full day of fishing. I really enjoyed the time spent at the lodge, visiting and talking with all of the guests and staff. Made it feel very much like a home away from home for everybody!

The fishing was as expected. I knew that we were probably a little early for the billfish bite, but that it should get better each day. Our group of 4 ended up catching 4 marlin (2 blues, 2 blacks) and probably 100 durado during the week, and we probably had 8-10 marlin or sailfish bites that we did not get hooked up!! Some days were better than others, but hey, THAT'S FISHING!! The weather was tough a couple of days with very heavy seas and winds. Bring Dramamine if you are prone to seasickness!! Boats and tackle were fantastic, everything worked as planned! Captains and mates (we had two boats that we rotated through the week) were all fantastic. Some spoke better English than others, but we were able to communicate without any issues. (mates made fresh durado ceviche on the boat....YUM!)

Overall, an excellent experience. Would highly recommend to anyone!

Dear jkennedy64,

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a thorough review of your experience at Tropic Star Lodge and recommending it for others. We are so happy to know that you had a good time with friends and that you caught fish!

We’re glad you mentioned the multiple Marriott locations in Panama City as it can be confusing and it’s a good tip. Since your experience, we’ve taken special note.

Panama is known for calm seas, however, when the northerly winds pick up it can produce chop on the water. This happens in the January and February time frame.

We’re also very pleased to know that you found our standard accommodation excellent and our food and service fantastic. And that our staff was attentive and able to address your needs. We agree that the camaraderie shared with guests and staff alike is a lot of the fun. Tropic Star Lodge is an extended home to anglers around the world.

Congratulations on your fishing all that Dorado for fresh ceviche and fish fingers! We hope to see you back to Tropic Star Lodge soon. Thanks again for the review of your fishing experience.

Kind regards,
Mallory and Richard White
