What they say is true. The Makati Palace is alright. If you know what you're getting into it's not a bad deal. The breakfast buffet is pretty good but if you order breakfast from the regular menu at other times it isn't great. The room I had was clean and I felt safe in the hotel. The location in relation to things to do in the city is pretty good. However the street immediately outside the hotel is an eye opening experience for children and those who think that everything is rosie in the real world. There is plenty of prostitution evident and other unsavory behavior as well. In the daytime it isn't a hassle but after 6:00 p.m. it is bothersome and potentially dangerous. Mind you, this isn't the hotel itself, just the neighborhood. Knowing that you should be o.k. I've stayed in worse hotels. It isn't the Shangri-La but the price isn't bad either.
Don't change money at the hotel because the rate per US dollar was about 6 pesos less than we found it a small city block away. And the taxi service at the hotel is overpriced as well however the drivers are friendly. Use them for good, safe service but not for a bargain. They wanted 600 pesos to go to the airport and we got a cab on the street in front to take us there for 300 pesos and it was just fine.
