Quite amazed there are so many reviews of this bridge... to me, the start of construction on this bridge marked the period when Cebu began to have congested "traffic" that could be compared to Manila. And now that construction has ended and the bridge functions alongside "the old bridge," the traffic never seems to have died down... its worse than ever (but I think that's just a function of the growth of the city since 1999).
But here are a few facts: bridge opened August 1999 to decongest traffic of older bridge, total length 1237 meters (4058.40 feet), center span of 185 meters (606.96 feet), completed by in August 1999, and inaugurated by President Joseph Estrada in the same month - one of the widest and longest bridge spans in the Philippines. Bridge constructed with help of Japanese Government, named after Senator Marcelo Fernan, Cebu City. Mactan Island side of the bridge, Millennium Park at base bridge piers, Filipino Seafarers Memorial in park. Bridge has two pedestrian walkways, north/south side - well-loved for jogging and marathons.
