We arrived into Vosstania metro station and spent quite a long time walking round in circles trying to find the hotel. On our last day we found that if you use Mayakovskogo station instead, you come out much closer to the hotel.

The hotel is in 2 buildings so can be a long walk if you need to visit reception and you’re in the second building. The rooms are very nice with good facilities including a kettle etc. The room layout is interesting with the toilet separate to the bathroom, so you have to go between the rooms to wash your hands after! There was also a separate shower cubicle which i didn’t even noticed until after I had already had a shower using the overhead shower attachment in the bath!

Check in and check out was smooth and Polina was really sweet and helpful.

Location is good and you can walk to the main sights or alternatively get the metro.
There are plenty of shops and places to eat and drink in the local area. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to stay in a decent hotel on a budget.

I stayed four nights in Room 1814. Here’s some tips…

Tip: Map access to the hotel is shown on the map as via Mayakovskogo or Vosstaniya. For simplicity, on your first night approach from Maykovskogo. After that you find that there’s many cut through routes to Nevskiy. Just follow the locals. They are not going to their apartments, they are going through to the bus stop on Nevsky and you should too. All the buses go to both Hermitage and Kunstkamera, stopping right outside. Much easier than the metro. Cost 40 Rub or use your podorozhnik card.

Tip: Don’t use your “Do not disturb sign” on the door of your room. It will be replaced within nanoseconds with a sign saying that your room will not be cleaned today because of this. Even at 9 am this happens. Just double lock your door when you take a shower. There is no ‘please clean room’ sign available. Obviously, if you sleep through the afternoon, you might have to go without a room clean, but a general observation of other rooms shows that the hotel is playing some game here. The cleaning standard itself is excellent.

Tip: Breakfast varies. Enthusiastic and attentive staff will clear your table if you pop to collect some more butter. Single diners should leave their spectacles, coat on chair and other evidence that haven’t finished. If there’s two of you, take turns at leaving the table. Food is average hotel stuff. Plenty of it. At weekends there’s kids running round causing havoc and mucking about with the food. If you have kids, please do not let them leave your sight.

Tip: Senior travellers. The shower is over the tub so you’ll need to climb over the bath edge. There is a grab rail. The separate toilet is OK for straightforward stuff, but if you have any special needs or need to go a lot, it might annoy. I was OK but if you have poor mobility or use sticks, you’d be in trouble. Wheelchair users would not be able to use a standard room. Hopefully there’s accessible rooms available, but check first.

Tip: Heating. You won’t be cold in this place. I switched the air heating off, and also the radiator to zero and was comfortable.

Tip: Watch out for endless adverts for discounts, points schemes and various add-on nonsense. Every surface is covered in this crap, even the breakfast table. This is standard for many big hotels BUT… This hotel has emergency evacuation plan in case of a security alert. This is reassuring and responsible and I was pleased to see it’s details and to know it was in place.
You could easily miss any safety messages as the mountain of promotional guff buries the stuff you need to know.

Would I stay here again? Absolutely. It’s a great location. Clean with friendly attentive staff. The price is excellent. You get a lot for your money. I really enjoyed my stay.

The Novotel Hotel is centrally located in 2 buildings with a link bridge, just off Nevsky Prospekt, the main avenue. a slightly quirky bedroom layout. Good breakfast choices and friendly staff. Free WiFi throughout the hotel. Modern style in public areas and bedrooms. Great location within easy walking distance to shops, bars, restaurants. Rooms split between 2 buildings. Building 2 seemed to have better rooms

Room Tip: Building 2

A fine hotel near the Nevski Prospekt. There are two buildings which are connected by a walkway.

Positioned well for anyone visiting for tourism.

The rooms are fine, clean and reasonably spacious. The bed was very comfortable. Free wifi was excellent.

Breakfast is many and varied. Very good.

There are lots of restaurants within a very few minutes walk.

Very helpful and friendly staff

We stayed here as part of a tour package and I must say we thoroughly enjoyed the stay both the hospitality and the facilities. The hotel itself is centrally located. The rooms were spacious and we had enough space despite fitting in two extra beds for our kids. The rooms were very clean, there was good balcony outside of our room with a small table and chairs. The lobby had some games for the kids , so they thoroughly enjoyed those. The breakfast was quite decent as well with a good ambiance. Great hotel and highly recommended.
