Terrible hotel, waste of money and nerves:
* didn't even try to make up my room despite green badge on the door and request to administrators
* do not provide slippers, only if you buy them they bring slippers in an hour
* hotel staff is unqualified and very slow, security were pushing me to speak to the reception when I asked the receptionist via phone to prolonge my stay
* breakfast is very poor and is served with the words "it is a gift from the hotel, be thankful"
* walls are made from cardboard, so you can hear every move and word of neighbors

13:00. I travel for business all over Russia, and this hotel, although it looks attractive from the outside and inside (think: expensive looking furniture in the lobby and hallways), is not worth what I paid for it (more than 100 EUR per night). Check in was slow. I was given a very small room that faced into an internal courtyard. The room was warm -- no way to open the window and regulate temperature. There was free wi-fi that worked only intermittently. Breakfast was typically Russian, poor choice and not tasty. The only decent part about this place is the location -- some good places to eat nearby. I will not stay in this hotel again.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms around the internal courtyard

We arrived at 3am and had to wait for reception to fix the computer 'bug'. Wouldn't let us do it in the morning as it would be a new staff shift. When we finally got to our room we could not find the light switches and had to use our phones to find them. Opened windows for air but had a lot of traffic noise. Huge bed with one small duvet for two. One towel in bathroom, one robe and one pair of slippers. Had to pay extra for shower cap, water etc. We requested a change to a quieter room for the next night but still only had one towel, duvet etc and had to ask for two to be provided. Breakfast very limited. Hotel full of artificial flower arrangements. Service is poor, very little English spoken. Bar not working, no restaurant or room service. I cannot see why it is listed as 4 star. Good central location. Good to be able to open windows. Quiet air conditioning available.

Room Tip: Request a room at the back which has less traffic noise. Our translator had a lot of noise from staff in the passage outside her room, so if quiet is important to you, request a quiet room.

Stayed here during the 2013 world junior hockey championship. Dina, the lovely day manager who speaks English, was very sweet and helpful. If she isn't on duty, communicating with the front desk can be difficult if you don't speak Russian.
Some colleagues had issues with their rooms. One had to switch rooms because of a sewer smell and others complained of brown water from the shower. I had a small room compared to some of the others and had no major issues.
The breakfast selection is comprehensive although it may seem strange to North Americans - a combination breakfast and hot lunch. There is no restaurant in the hotel otherwise, although there is a small bar in the lobby.
There are no western hotels in Ufa like a Marriott or Hilton that I know of, so if you get the right room at the Astoria, you should be OK.

Room Tip: Getting the right room was hit and miss, but colleagues who wanted to change rooms were able to do so right away.
