Hotel Landmark, what can i say...

Trip: Business
Time: April for 21 days
Room: Business Suite

Comments:
Room; Room was great.. would personally love them to update the rooms as fairly dated although well appointed.. Fridge, Lounge, Desk, LARGE COMFORTABLE Bed, 2 LCD's and bathroom. Only real negative is being dated,, and for crying out LOUD only LAN internet (no wifi) that crashes consistently.

Room Service: OMG, what is the go here.. eg, the toilet roll holder is a double holder and what do they do? leave one empty and let the other get below half before they replace the only one the dare to.. i have had to call room service every day to get more paper... (food has not treated me well)...

Club Lounge: this is another misconception.. do not expect to come to a club floor with all day beverages (non alcoholic), food, nibblies etc.. all that is offered is tea/coffee all day and then between 6-8pm sprite, coke zero, coke, local beer and some 'food' if you can refer to it as that.. although you can buy perrier water or wine. although service is great, they are very welcoming..

Paradise Restaurant (level 39).. this is touted as the highest western restaurant in guangzhou, omg, what defines western.. i dont recall eating fried rice and crab roe (egg) in melbourne at my local chinese restaurant.. mmm..

Staff: very friendly, language is a huge issue, although they try to be so accommodating..

In house costs: this is insane, it costs me 15.00 (plus 15%) to wash my jocks.. and boy, i could go to the fashion district and buy a new set for less than that.. it is just Canton Fair Highway Robbery.. take advantage of all traveller.. even to the extent of soft drinks, you can buy a can of coke downstairs in the supermarket for 3.00 and yet you pay $30ish plus 15% in the hotel..

Surroundings: food.. go to a german restaurant only minutes walk from the hotel.. turn right at the pearl river and it is just past the first bridge you go under.. its called 1920... nice meal, had pork there last night and will return tomorrow night as well.. hearty sized portions and very very reasonable prices...

Overall, i would stay here again.. it has been ok,, although nothing would really compare to a traditional hotel that has a truly well appointed club floor..

Probably one of the better quality China-bred hotels in GZ but arriving in the midst of the annual Canton Fair may not be the normal barometer of its performance when services are presumably over-stretched. They took more than 40 minutes to check us (a party of 7) into our rooms - at least they were meticulous in perusing our passports in great detail to make sure everything "matched"! As usual the transaction was conducted in a very business-like manner - afterall this is a 4-star rated business hotel so at least the registration was in character! What a relief when one of the bellboys managed a small smile.

The rooms are on the upper floors of an office tower but there didn't seem to be a separate lift for the tenants so it could be a tad crowded during office hours. The hotel floors appear to be newly refurbished but they couldn't do much about the low ceiling clearance (esp. the bathroom) which harks back to previous eras. The rooms are compact; once again a remnant of earlier times but at least the ID and furnishings have been tastefully updated and very clean (compliments to the housekeepers). My room had a wonderfully pristine view of the Pearl River with boats and ferries bobbing along (that is when its wasn't pouring buckets or foggy/smoggy?) Each floor came with an attendant to help you "navigate" to your room and they were always quite cordial, sweet and smiling.

The TV was once again low on foreign content. WIFI was non-existent but internet was, thankfully with all the connecting cables. Don't have high expectation of the toiletries but at least they came sealed for hygiene. A more premium collection sealed in a canister was available for an additional RMB38 - how thoughtful.

Breakfast on the top floor cafe quickly filled up so we were politely ushered to the 11th for ours. Selection was definitely geared for the typical Chinese businessman and then some - selection was pretty lack lustre and unimaginative (probably better on the penthouse). The lady maitre'd on duty was nice enough to allow me to start my meal even though I had gotten my room number momentarily confused.

There are plenty of restaurants and entertainment outlets around the hotel all geared to cater to business men with corporate accounts. If you are here for the Canton Fair (free shuttle apparently available) you could stay here but try someplace else if you are here on holiday.

The hotel is very central to the town, train and eating places. The customer service was excellent . The beds were comfortable and rooms clean. It was easily accessible from the airport with a direct bus. Wifi was not available in the rooms but available in the bar area in the lobby.

Room Tip: We had a room on the 23rd floor which gave a brilliant view of the Pearl River.

On an adventure trip with family n friend stayed on 35th floor. Got a cramped clean corner suite, breakfast included with fantastic pearl river view, however, very inconveniencing because the bathroom was along the corridor:) so one has to pass the lounge from the bedroom to go to the bathroom. It can be very cold especially during winter since they do not provide heating, temperatures are fixed so carry some warm nightwear during the cold season. Otherwise a well located hotel especially for shopping along Beijing street approx. 20 mins walk, variety of night entertainment spots and a pretty expensive seafood restaurant by the pearl river.

Room Tip: "Higher floors are quieter"

Stayed in the business suite on the higher floors. Its a big room with a connected living room. Rooms are clean but furnishing is starting to look old. For some reason, the door for the shower room could not be closed properly and the water floods the entire bathroom whenever I have a shower. This must be a design issue as I had stayed in this hotel several times and the same flooding occurs in different rooms.

There's are 2 nice Chinese restaurants on the lower levels. The restaurant on level 2 is cheaper but is always crowded. The restaurant on level 3 is more expensive (which may be a reason why its less crowded) and the food tastes really good.

Agree with all that Sebastian S says: Agoda does not tell you what size the rooms are, and after extending my stay, I ended up in a much smaller room and no breakfast included. To eat at the hotel restaurant was going to cost around $15 more. (each person). I changed my booking with the hotel to a larger room on the 34th floor for about $30 more and it included breakfast! However, hotel management should consider that guests need somewhere to put their various bits of clothing, and a set of drawers would go well.

Downstairs is fairly frantic, and as the doors remain open, staff have to freeze in the winter months. Room temperatures seemed to be fixed, so take a sweater.

Outside, traffic is chaotic, no manners at all, zebra crossings a death-defying experience, as taxis reign supreme! Pedestrians are a low form of life it seems, and blasting their horns clears a way. It is necessary to negotiate this to get to the Metro station.

Business centre charges too much, and a simple print-out cost me more than $2.00.

The 39th floor restaurant had a large range of Asian and American food, and one hopes they discover muesli soon.

On the plus side, there is a good range of small restaurants in the streets behind the hotel, as long as you can tolerate the smokers sitting under the 'no smoking' signs.

The sea food restaurant next door was so expensive!!

Pearl river trip at night was excellent. Lots of interesting places to explore just a station or two away, and Beijing Rd 20 minutes away on foot.

Room Tip: double-check room size and if breakfast is included. Views of the river are good.
