We enjoy bars for relaxed nights. We tried Torito based on a recommendation.

There were also a lot of tourists - we later realised that they advertise a lot in various tourist publications. Menus were in Japanese and English.

The bar has different chicken yakatori but also has some other specialities such as ostrich served largely raw as well as duck.

The yakatori was good as were most of the salads. They also had choices of whisky and other drinks.

A fun evening.

Tasty Japanese BBQ where you cook your own on a grill in front of you. Very helpful staff made our visit very enjoyable with some limited English to get around our no Japanese. Very tasty variety of chicken options and very good value. Recommend.

There are two Torito it seems - I think it's the same management but two different branches. We went to the one near Karasuma station as we stayed nearby, not the other one at Jingu.

The place was packed at 7.30pm, and we managed to get ourselves a seat at the bar without reservation. I would however, recommend you to book in advance. Even though the staff speaks little English, she tried her very best to understand. We got help from Google translate which is actually pretty useful.

We loved their Tsukune, tried most innards, gizzard, heart, liver, and we hated the chicken testicles. Nothing to do with the chicken testicles, it's just that we didn't like it in general, but thought it may be good. However, the gizzard, heart and liver i usually avoid, is pretty darn good! Chicken soup with egg is to avoid - it was plain and tasted like canned soup.

Food for two with sake came to about 7.7k yen which is pretty reasonable. I would definitely recommend this place for good Yakitori!!

Another small and well-designed restaurant in Japan. Sat comfortably on the (shared) bar stool with my husband- and I am not a small person, so that can be difficult here. Loved the array of ivory/grey/natural toned earthenware on the shelves above the bar. Enjoyed a recommended Kyoto dry sake with our meal. Ate our way through many parts of a chicken- all was well prepared, not dry (be aware that this very fresh and well-raised chicken is prepared juicy, not undercooked, but less cooked than often found in the USA- unless you order the sashimi, which is excellent but raw!). Not a huge fan of the giblets mostly for the excess chew involved, but the hearts and gizzards were excellent, as were all the various leg/breast/thigh bits, all on small skewers. The duck with spring onion was lovely. We also had a salad roll, filled with burdock salad and greens, which I highly recommend, and a square of tofu with seasonings that was fresh and silky.I love sitting at counters so I can observe preparations- and decide what to order next. A pickle of watermelon radish with a touch of soy and fresh yuzu peel caught my eye, so the chef made us a bowl and it was delightful. Minimal English, but the menu does have English and pictures, so it is all quite easy.

It was a wet evening. After shopping in the Nishiki market we decided to have Yakitori at Torito which had recently started here. At 7.30pm the place was almost full. There are table seatings & counter seatings. Service was excellent.
Yakitori of standard parts of the chicken to rare parts such as cartilage, hips, and neck are available. Yakitori of young domestic chicken were served and grilled on the charcoal grill by the chef. Keep in mind that 2 or more Yakitori must be ordered per type. The prices shown on the menu is for 1 Yakitori skewer. Each skewer was about 162 yen plus.
We had 'rare' skewers of cartilage & neck. Tasted great. Also ordered 'standard' skewers of breast, thigh & gizzard. We had rice with these. Unfortunately liver was not available. Also ordered their special rice clay pot which took an hour to prepare. It was worth the wait. The taste was heavenly even though we were full by the time it came.
The bill for the six of us came up to US$150/-. We left satisfied & happy.
