Owner description: One of Kyoto's most famous attractions, this temple was originally built in 1397 as a residence for shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu. The structure was completely covered in gold leaf, earning it the name Golden Pavilion.

“You won't see any other like this one!”
Reviewed 12 April 2012

It is beautiful in any season but the place is famous for Cherry Blossom and fall color view. One of the "must see" places in Kyoto!

“Stunning Gardens”
Reviewed 11 April 2012

Attended as part of a tour. It was raining at the time, but the gardens and temple were still stunning. A must see for anyone visiting Kyoto or Osaka

“Beautiful, yes but that's it. Worse: hordes of tourists”
Reviewed 11 April 2012

The attraction itself was okay, not that special. It should even be treated as a public location without fees but I can see there's a need for maintenance of the surrounding Japanese garden.

The worst thing about this place is the number of group tourists. The number is so large that you thought you're actually on a train in rush hours.

“Perfect japanese garden”
Reviewed 10 April 2012

A feeling of zen comes naturally when entering this beautiful garden with sand arrangements, ponds and nicely held trees. A nice view from top spot also.

“Avoid crowds, go early”
Reviewed 9 April 2012

The place is amazing, deserve to enjoy it with silence and calm around... no crowds pushing to take the souvenir picture. Go early, avoid the groups.
