Dress comfortable as walking is necessary to see everything on offer. I visited the temple as part of half day tour. Always great with English speaking tour guide and local knowledge/history chats.

We combined this visit with a first stop at Kinkaju-ji "Golden Pavillion" and second at Ryoan-ji Temple. One of the few opportunities in Kyoto to see 3 world heritage sites in the same 1/2 day visit. It is an ideal place to visit in the rain because all the buildings are interconnected by covered walkways. The guardian figure at the gate very stirring and the 5 story pagoda from the 1630's quite amazing. Taken together all three locations highly recommended. This is the Least visited of the 3.

This place was really quiet compared to just about every other temple in Kyoto, so that was a definite plus. I though the grounds were lovely. I was there before the sakura had arrived and some of the buildings (inc the Kannon-do) were under renovation, but this really didn't detract from my visit.

The pagoda is five stories and apparently all the stories are more or less the same size, that makes it quite unique.

The Chu-mon gate in the middle of the main path through is pink. I've never seen anything quite like it.

It is a lovely place that is often overlooked as it is quite a way out of the main areas of Kyoto (about 45 mins on the bus from shijo-dori, but definitely worth it, in my opinion

Definitely worth a visit. Only 500 yen and and only 800 if you want to visit the museum. You can easily spend a couple of hours here.

The cherry Blossom in April was spectacular and the gardens are a very good place to see it at its best. One has to purchase a ticket to access the gardens but it was definitely worth seeing
