By reserving a room almost 1.5 months in advance we got a really good price for a twin room at this quiet, contemporary, newish hotel right across from the Kyoto National Museum. Room was average size but the bathroom, especially the walk-in shower with the deep tub to one side, were luxurious--no shower curtain to hem one in during shower time. Rooms were clean, clean, well-stocked w/ slippers and fresh bathrobes and kimono pj's each night. Breakfast menu was not as great as other high-end hotels but fine. Staff was super attentive and the concierge even helped us make reservations at a moderately-priced hotel in Tokyo without sniffing his nose in disdain. Location was a stone's throw from the Raku Bus stop and a block from the regular city bus which we used extensively in our sightseeing. Bamboo forest out in front of the hotel gave a nice first impression. Taxi ride from train station was under ten minutes and about 10 USD.

The hotel is great, rooms are really wonderful. The location is the only real drawback, too far from the attractions and you have to travel through some parts of Kyoto that look unattractive. If you decide to stay there, request a room facing the garden. Skip the museum across the street...

I agree completely with the other reviews.
Beautiful hotel, and absolutely wonderful rooms.
The only thing I did not like is the location.
I prefer to stay more in the middle of town or in the Gion district as I do not want to take a taxi or bus, prefer to walk and then this hotel is not so nicely located.

The place was excellent. Great service, clean, and a wonderful modern decor -- nice balance of minimalism and natural feel. This was the best hotel we stayed at in Japan (except for 1 night at the Hakone Ginyu). Definitely recommend this place.

My boyfriend and I stayed at the Hyatt Regency Kyoto for 5 nights during the first week of April. It was WONDERFUL! Our king-bedded room had the beautifully upholstered headboard you see in the web site photos, the toilet in the room was an experience in and of itself. And Oh my........the shower. WOW. Incredible. Great water pressure, great hardware, great everything.

The lobby is really beautiful, and the internet access was free in the lobby, so we spent a good amount of time there. The Italian restaurant, Trattoria Sette was good, although not up to the par I was expecting after reading so many good reviews about the pizza here at TripAdvisor.

We were in Kyoto at the peak of cherry blossom season, so it was great that our room overlooked a zen garden and a gigantic cherry tree. After reading so many reviews of the place, I was surprised that the locationd didn't seem as out of the way as some reviewers/forum entries had described. There are actually many small shops and convenience stores within walking distance. The cab rides to and from Gion and Pontocho at night cost about 1000 yen each way, which wasn't too bad.

We had a few cab drivers that didn't know about the hotel, so then we' d say Sanjusangendo Temple, which was right next door.........it's a great landmark to use if the taxi doesn't know where you want to go.

The breakfasts at the grill downstairs were good; lots of juices, yogurts, cereals, fruits, even pancakes, eggs, ham and sausage.

This hotel was perfect for us. The staff were very courteous, EVERYTHING is brand new and totally state of the art. We highly recommend it.

Restaurants we tried and loved were Mikaku and Ozawa in Gion, and Misogi-Gawa in Pontocho. Kyoto is incredibly beautiful, as were the people. Everyone was extremely helpful, outgoing and friendly. The temples are awe-inspiring, and Maruyama Goen was a wonderful park to take part in the joy of hanami. What a great time we had!

We stayed at the Hyatt for 4 nights in mid March. It is newly opened (within past year) at site of older hotel with full renovations. While rooms are on small side, we were not disappointed with modern pleasant decor (although quality is B+ rather than A). Since we are afficionaods of street (i.e., train, department store and street food) we did not eat at all at the hotel (save for room service breakfasts and/or coffee --- hotel food prices are outrageously expensive --- this is not uniue to hyatt but is true all over Japan). We found helpful staff and useful launch point for visits in Kyoto (especially, walking tours of the Higashiyama west side --- a key starting point, the Kyomitsu shrine is about 10 minutes walk away). Access to central Kyoto is easy with the Shichijo stop on Keihan about 5 minutes walk away (5 minute ride to Shijo stop downtown near Takashimaya). Cab to Kyoto central station is 5 minutes, less than 700Y. Hotel provides arrival cab service. Sanjusangendo temple and Kyoto musueum literally next door and across the street. On our third day, we booked full day Kyoto and Nara tour (Sunrise) -- Hyatt (presumably due to newness, is not one of pickup points) so we had to go to the Miyako (near Kyoto station); but that was easy. One disappointment: hotel does not have a hot bath facility.
