The Hotel Monterey chain is pretty visible throughout Kansai area (Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe) and each hotel has a different theme running through the lobby and rooms. The hotel Grassmere is supposed to remind you of an English country hunting retreat - of course, it really feels like a spacious business hotel, which it is. The rooms are clean and the bathroom is definitely bigger than your ordinary business hotel's bathroom, plus the view from the South-west side is fantastic. The staff is kind and attentive and speaks decent English and the location is terrific for getting to the subway, the airport, the bus terminal, etc... The main reason I stayed here, though, is because they offer promotions if you book far enough in advance - a month out and the room was marked off 40%. That's really a nice deal if you're looking to splurge on some space, comfort, location, view, and accessibility. And you needn't splurge too terribly much. But I wouldn't stay here if I had to pay full price. Not even to impress a partner.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a city view.

Beautifully located at top of JR Namba staion, so easy direct access to anywhere in Osaka with JR Lines ( if u have JR Pass ). Only 10 mins walk to famous Namba area and Dotomburi, places for good foods and nightlife

I stayed in 31st floor, with good city view at night, the room was okay, larger than i was expected for typical Japanese room. It has free wifi the room also ( lan cable available ) . Keep notice if u bring children, because it has a free adutl movie in the tv program.

Room Tip: Higher floor are for smoking rooms, but with better view at night

The wife and I stayed here for a couple nights. The hotel is nice. The
room was spacious and clean. The shower curtain smelled, but the
freshener spray helped. We could hear the trains from our room, but it
didn't bother us, as we were up early and were out most of the day.

Location is great, but you should rely on other lines and subways
other than JR. Fastest way to get around is to subway to/from Namba
station to Osaka/Umeda or Shin-Osaka station, using JR to get from Osaka
or Shin-Osaka to Namba will take 3x as long.

Hotel is a 5 minute walk from Dotonbori and accessible from Namba station.

I noticed that someone gave a low rating for not getting special
treatment. This hotel, and Japan in general, follows the rules if
there are rules set. There are no exceptions to the rule or special
treatment, similar to their views on tipping. You get what you pay
for, nothing less, nothing more, but you might get lucky.

Spent two nights here having come from Tokyo on holiday. Honestly I'm not sure how this hotel is so highly ranked. Sure it's nice and new having been built in 2009 but it feels strange - not helped by the massive faux English chapel in the lobby...! The hotel is covered in pictures of London but the air conditioning is all in Japanese making it hard to work out (if you are not Japanese). TV was also beyond me - we managed to find porn channels only vaguely censored but no English news. Whilst we found this quite funny, if I had young children finding it that would be less amusing.

Location is good above a very handy shopping complex and the JR Namba train station with a myriad of tube stops. Very lively nightlife just ten minutes walk away which is great for getting a bite to eat.

We were given a tiny room with no view for a large amount of money (more than our excellent Tokyo hotel The Intercontinental). It served a purpose but I wouldn't bother staying here again.

We stayed 3 nights at this hotel. The 1st impression was the artistic decoration of the whole hotel. I felt that I had walked into a gallery. The chapel located in the lobby's floor was a signature of the hotel and many new couples had booked it for their wedding ceremonies. Rooms were big enough and you got what you paid for. No semi-double for us but a queen-size double bed, which was much comfortable compared with most of the hotels in Osaka.

This was probably the best hotel (stayed at 2 others) throughout my stay in Japan, and for a very good reason. Location, location, location. Well-connected to the JR Namba Station (this is the closest station), near enough to everything else. Rooms are sufficient for their size (you have to realize that huge rooms are a luxury in Japan); I booked a triple room with my parents. Hotel is located from on levels 22-26 (if I recall correctly) so you're certainly treated to awesome views of the Osaka skyline from whichever room you choose. Lobby's oddly cute in that it houses an indoor chapel. Very reasonable price we paid for this hotel room. Language-wise, staff are quite competent in English so we didn't have any problems communicating with them.

This is the closest hotel to the JR Namba station; certainly a good base if you intend to explore other parts of Japan whilst still leaving your luggages at the hotel. Also, the OCAT Kansai International Airport limousine bus (most recommended form of getting to Kansai International Airport, saves you the hassle of having to keep changing trains and figuring out your way) is located right next door at the JR Namba station; you might want to factor this as a hotel of choice because it's seriously convenient lugging your luggages from the hotel to the bus terminal in a matter of merely 2 minutes.

Would certainly love to go back to this hotel again!

Room Tip: You must specify whether you want a non-smoking room prior to your arrival, or else, by default, you...

Stayed 6 nights at this hotel. We reached the hotel around 11am with our 5 month old baby. Asked if we could check in early, one of the staff told us our room is ready but hotel check in time is 3pm so if we want early check in, the rate is 1000yen an hour. OMG! Room is ready and they won't let u check in, instead they want to charge people for that. Charging for late check out is fine with me but this is ridiculous. The rooms are very small and dusty totally different from the ones i saw in the pictures. Definitely will not stay in this hotel again during my next visit to Osaka.
