The only saving grace for this hotel is it's friendly and helpful staff. Otherwise I found the property disappointing on all levels.

Rooms:
Whilst large and clean, the rooms can only be described as a blast from the past. Old wooden furniture, uncomfortable office chair, desk too high for the chair and no WIFI in the room unless one hires a router from the hotel.
No Westin Heavenly bed available unless booking Club rooms. Bathrooms are old and worn and are also not the Heavenly Baths usually offered in Westin hotels.
Even executive rooms are old and worn. They apparently have Heavenly Beds, though I did not stay in one. Everything else in the Club rooms is the same than in standard rooms (including the outdated furniture)

Public areas:
Outdated, Old fashioned and worn is the best way to describe the public areas and restaurants. Food offering in the breakfast restaurant are very limited and not very good.
Worst place is the Blue Bar where overpriced drinks are sold in a tired and very smokey ambiance. Staff in the bar barely speak English. I ordered a Draft Guinness and ended up being served from a small, lukewarm can. USD 15 plus a mandatory cover charge of USD 9 are outrageous for one drink, particularly when it's not what was offered on the menu. (served without explanations)

Note there is no WIFI available in the hotel's public areas.

Will I stay again.... hope not!

Room Tip: Executive Room for Heavenly bed or different hotel just to be sure

Thank you for the feedback regarding your stay at The Westin Osaka. We are very sorry to hear that you did not enjoy a comfortable stay. As you pointed out, the biggest challenge now for us is aging guestrooms. Almost 20years has passed since our hotel opened, and our facilities have become older. However, we guarantee that our associates offer you hospitality. Also guestrooms will be refurbished from this year for your enjoyment stay.

In regard to the Blue Bar, we are sorry we could not meet your expectations. The glass of "Draft Guinness" we offered was one of the official Guinness draft and we assure it is the same quality as poured from the barrel. However, we apologize that it was not cold enough, which is the primary importance for the taste of beer.
Also, the staff should have explained the cover charge beforehand or they could at least indicate the menu where explained it. We must apologize for making you feel it was not worth the price of a glass of beer with a cover charge at the Blue Bar.
We immediately reviewed our service standard and will do our best to provide better service to all our guests.

We hope you come and stay again.

A great hotel, the only minus is the location. I have really enjoyed my stays at the Westin in Osaka, the hotel is very nice, the staff are great and the price is right. The front desk staff is especially helpful. The rooms are large and very well appointed. Not to mention spotlessly clean. The restaurants are very good, and the breakfast buffet is great if you crave a real American meal to start the day. The fish pond off the lobby bar and restaurant is very relaxing.
The only thing I can think to list as a drawback is the location, most of the things that you want to do around the hotel are closer to the train station, which is a good 15 minute walk, and to get there you need to use an underpass that goes under the railroad tracks. I am sure it is very safe, but I would not to walk alone at night if I was woman. They have a shuttle bus that takes as long as the walk does, but it drops you off right in the heart of things.

Stayed in a Deluxe Room in October of 2011 for the second time. As is the case with just about every hotel in Japan, service is exemplary. The front desk and bell personnel are eager to please and super quick in tending to your every whim. The rooms are reasonably spacious and are spic & span. However, the Westin is starting to show its age - it's nothing like The Westin Tokyo... nothing about it screams "luxury." Furthermore, the location is quite inconvenient, unless you usually get around by taxi rather than via the subway.

Still, it's priced appropriately so there's not too much to complain about. Serviceable business hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and found that it meets the standars set out by Westin when it comes to class of service.

Restaurants were excellent and service staff even better.

But, this hotel is older and starting to show its age. My only opinion is that the rooms are nearing there end of life and should be refurbished soon to remain in line with what you would expect from a Westin hotel.

Probably the most professional staff of any hotel we stayed in our 5 weeks in Japan. English can be a problem, like in so many hotels in Japan, but there is always someone coming to the rescue. We stayed on the Executive floor and can only recommend it! Up there everyone speaks English, the service is great and the views are incredible. they must be the best in town (see photos). There is no fault we can find with this hotel - if there were one thing I would like to comment on, it is the temperature in the public areas. We were there in December and, although I prefer the cold to the heat, but it was downright cold to eat in the coffeeshop or wait for friends in the lobby. That is a first time in any hotel.
The location of the hotel is very good, just behind Umeda station. Walking to the station takes at most 10 minutes, but there are also frequent shuttle buses to and from Umeda.

Room Tip: the higher the better
