Location: a 5 minute walk from both Pavilion shopping centre and Prince Court hospital, while easy to reach from the motorway (meaning you do not have to go through Bukit Bintang hell to get there).
Design: Malaysian traditional architecture on the outside, Asian glitz 5 hotel styling and spaces on the inside.
Room: Nothing extraordinary, but everything works fine. My room had a window from which I could watch the pouring rain outside splatter on the red-tiled roof just below, nice and homely.
Breakfast: big Asian and Western buffet-style, all the classics are there. Not high culinary art, but it serves the purpose perfectly.
Service: fortunately a can-do attitude and friendliness are standard, but as this is a big hotel, service unfortunately tends to be slow at some times. I for example had to wait and call twice until I got my power adapter delivered to the room.
Conclusion: I would definitely stay here again: service and quality are what you should expect from 5 star (without being especially memorable though) - but its location makes this hotel a winner.

Stayed here for 3 nights, the hotel is in a great location easy walking distance to mega shopping malls and the monorail, staff were friendly, room was lovely, breakfast buffet adequate although would have liked some bacon, realize that the country is predominately muslim but they should cater to all. Would definately return.

Hotel Property is beautiful. Stunning staircases, chandeliers and beautiful lobby etc. The rooms are not bad. Could be nicer but not bad. Definitely not a 4 or 5 stars in my book.

Service- there are guys running around in suits and ties in the hot and humid weather. Maybe it's too hot, they barely ever cracked a smile. Customer service is adequate. They don't go above and beyond for anything. But then again, we came here after amazing places. In Bangkok and Phuket where hotel staffs will give us the moon if we want to. Tokyo-well : it doesn't even compared the friendliness.

We've stayed at Hotel Maya a week after for few days and found the staffs much nicer.Much better location too. Overall experience was ok. It was nice, pretty and adequate. If you must stay in Kuala Lumpur and don't go much about going out: stay here.

If not, I'd go with other hotels much closer to the Petrona towers so at least you can go sigh see and eat food inside.

We have just returned home from a very enjoyable 5 night stay at Royale Chulan. On our early arrival, we were able to check in immediately which was a godsend after a very late and restless flight from Melbourne. Our twin room was located on the 2nd floor - this is a designated smoking floor so non smokers may prefer to avoid this although we didn't notice any smoke odour through the hallways and elevator lobby.

The room was well presented and clean with enough space for luggage and, later, shopping. We had a balcony which didn't afford much of a view (higher floors are best for this) but it was great to sit outside nonetheless. The beds are comfortable although the addition of a top sheet would be great as we slept without the air con most nights and found the doonas to be very warm.

The bathroom was fine with good quality toiletries and towels. We didn't experience any problems with the shower flooding as reported by some other reviewers and the water pressure was terrific.

We greatly enjoyed the breakfast buffet each morning and recommend this as an inclusion with the room rate. You can request expresso coffee rather than the brewed mix on offer but both are fine as is the tea. We simply enjoyed the opportunity to take our time each morning and sample the various cuisines available.

All staff were very pleasant and helpful, inquiring about our activities and whether we required any advice /assistance during our stay. A self inflicted plumbing problem (my fault) was resolved quickly and very politely.

The only issue which arose during our stay occurred whilst a major function was held in the ballroom one night. The audio speakers are fixed high on the atrium poles and one of these was approximately 10 metres from our balcony. The resulting 'broadcast' of the event was very disruptive and loud even when we closed the balcony door. Consequently, our bedtime was on hold until the event finished late that night. It would be better, I think, if a PA system was located in the ballroom itself.

Apart from that one problem, we greatly enjoyed our stay here and would certainly stay again albeit on a higher floor.

We didn't feel this was a full 5-star experience, but we were very impressed with the hotel in general.

Breakfast was fantastic, with awesome choice. The lobby area is very grand and the piano and singers are charming in the evening. The rooms are also impressive, with grand decor. Location was very good, with a lots of things like shopping malls, sights, restaurants close by.

We were less impressed with the check-in. We were made to wait for 40 minutes because our room had not been prepared, even though we arrived in the late afternoon. The pool was closed when we went to visit, as the incorrect timings had not been changed in the room services guide.

As our taxi drove towards The Royale Chulan I prayed that this would be our hotel, it is absolutely beautiful. The architecture and style is so different to the other hotels around it. Hotel can best be desrcibed as elegant and regal. The outdoor appearance as well as indoor simply magnificent. Staff gave excellent service, hotel very well maintained and rooms are beautifully furnished in a malaysian theme. definately a 5star hotel. Location great, a small walk to the Pavillion Shopping centre and easy to navigate from there. The hop on hop off bus stops right next door to this hotel at the Craft Centre so a good location for tourists.
