“Stay in the West Wing!”
Reviewed 28 February 2012

Its a lovely hotel that has two wings, east and west, the east is more older and out dated but has been renovated since my last stay in 2009, but the West wing is wonderful. The east wing has still a few things lacking, my rooms bathroom the shower did not drain so you would be in a pool, there was mold on the tiles, but the room was good, comfortable beds and a new TV since the last time. The pool is one of the best I have ever seen, simply outstanding with a great pool bar. Location is awesome, two mins walk to the monorail and 5 mins to the Petronas Towers!

Advantages:
- I've got a good rate as MR member (approximately 100 USD); though no breakfast was included;
- nice outdoor pool to chill there after a hot day.

Remarks:
- rather expensive buffet dinner (a little bit more than 100 ringgit) with quite ordinary choice of meals and strawberries everywhere (desserts, decoration);
- old room amenities and furniture; big chandeliers in the lobby - not my favorite style;
- you may wish to have a view or just go to Petronas towers, but there is no unimpeded view (East Wing) and 10-12 minutes walking to the towers was not a pleasant task at all.

Stayed here for 3 nights as I needed to acquire a business visa with the Thai Embassy.
We had the newly refurbished rooms in the east wing, which were good.

The room was quiet, comfortable and I must say the bed was very, very comfortable. You can hear its an older hotel as you ca hear the shower in the morning of the room above yours.

Breakfast can be busy and a bit messy, they have large tables set up so even if you want to have a breakfast with the 2 of you, you might get sat next to (in our case) other travelers who don't carry too much about their eating manners as you might do. Also we found some guests taking food (bread) etc with their hands from the buffet, something I think the staff should be more attend to, as it is really not done. Coffee tasted old, we had breakfast around 9:30am every morning so could be that the coffee was made at 7am, when they open.

Elevator system seems to be in need of an upgrade, our tower had 4, but if you are going down it stops about 4 times, and going up was always crowded as well, why not have some elevators standby on different floors, and not let one elevator pick up people on 4 floors while going down, but rather program another one to go there?

We also found the prices in the bar expensive, luckily they do a very good happy hour at the pool gazebo, which is the highlight of this hotel; the pool. Its enormous and good for a very relaxed swim, also it is not crowded and plenty loungers available. Staff in the gazebo are nice and good, and you can enjoy a sisha if you like.

We didn't eat in the hotel other then bf, as we thought it was quite expensive. There is also a nightclub on the premises, we didn't go there anyway.

If you want to use the pool bar etc leave a credit-card for deposit, something we didn't do (we weren't asked) and after a drink on the first night a waiter had to come up to my room to get cash, as room charge was denied. Bothered me a little, also the receptionist tried to sell us to the lifestyle-floor when checking in at a surcharge, something I felt was not really 5 star.

All together a very comfortable sleep, good mattress, dark and quit room, breakfast is good but busy and messy, but worth for the pool and the room.

Its a 10 minute walk to the twin towers, and a train nearby, not far from the Thai embassy, if you need to be there, but not very close either.

Room Tip: East wing has twin tower view

The hotel has two wings, East and West. If you want views of the Petronas Towers, you need to be in the East wing. We stayed in the West wing in a room facing the pool, and while the rooms were very nice, the hotel fracilities especially the reception lacked any character. The lobby was very open plan and led onto one of the large restaurants facing the road where we ate almost alone. There is building work going on across the road in the front of the Renaissance, and behind and to the side, so sitting by the pool in the afternoon was not a restful experience. The hotel is near a sky train stop (5 minutes walk), near the Tourist Centre (a waste of time) and ten minutes from the Petronas Towers but along a very busy road along a treacherous pavement. We felt the hotel was not well placed to go out at night as there were no nearby places to eat and you needed a taxi to get to anywhere you might want to go for an evening stroll. We also had a large Honda delegation in the Conference Centre the last day, and the best buffet restuarant in the East wing had been reserved exclusivery for them without notice. Wine charges everywhere in the hotel were crazy starting at £40 so we went without. They also add 10 % service charge and 6% tax to everything you eat or drink. You could buy good Australian or Chilian Wine for £8 in the Pertonas Tower shopping Mall. Why do hotels try to rip people off like this?

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room, as there are families with three children in some rooms. We had to move becaus...

We took advantage of a stay 2 nights get 1 night free promotion. The hotel is only 10mns walk from the Petronas towers and the view from our room was spectacular!

I stayed at this hotel for 3 days last week...I found the front desk extremely uncooperative...it took them ages to find my reservation...only wired internet is available in the room and is not free unless you are a Mariott member...the breakfast is not complimentary either (50 ringgit)...the rooms are old and spacious...the big advantage is the proximity to the sky train station and it being a 10 minute walk from KLCC...next time will stay at the Intercontinetal or Shangri-La!

Room Tip: The West Wing has better rooms but they are more expensive.

This hotel has a great location next to skytrain and other transportation.
We changed rooms because there was only wireless internet in the lobby. Internet has not been run to all the rooms yet. Very crowded lobby at night with limited seating for using a laptop to carry on business. Loud piano music playing and all the flight crews coming into hotel that time of night.
We relocated to an upper floor which they call lifestyles rooms or something like that because they have wireless internet.
Best part of stay was eating at the sushi bar – Wow if I lived in KL I would make it a habit to come to this restaurant several times a month. My wife is very picky about her sushi and does not try things but these sushi chefs were very professional and prepared things that my wife liked (ell skin tempura, baby octopus). She normally just likes California Rolls but these guys’ made the best what I would call fusion style dishes were everything melts in your mouth with great flavor. On my “Must Do List” if I stay in KL.

Room Tip: Ask about wireless internet in your room (Lifestyle Room) or you will be down in crowed lobby using...
