“Great Find close to UST”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2013

This hotel is in the poorer area of Manila but convenient to UST and hospitals. It's budget priced and very friendly. The family room is large, clean, and well appointed. The staff are friendly and efficient, the breakfast is good and it has a free car park. We didn't need anything more and had a great stay thanks to the hotel staff who made us welcome. Thank you. I would love to come again.

Room Tip: We were three and upgraded to the family room which was more than adequate and over looked the road...

Rooms are showing its age but are well maintained.
It has the basics - ref, kettle, hot water, clean restroom, cable - plus free wifi and parking. There are floors where local cell signal is bad so better ask before checking in.
It serves good food that are inexpensive. They also allow food delivery from outside establishments.
Malls, schools etc are very near and there are a lot of cabs, jeepneys, buses that can be hailed just outside the hotel.
Its most endearing feature is the staff - corteous and willing to please. When you hand them a tip they seem surprised and you can see that they really appreciate it.
The best part is you can stay the whole 24 hours from the time you check in. Their checkout isn't noon.
The only complaints are they have limited parking slots and the area is prone to flooding.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with a clear cell signal.

The room was fairly ok. The staffs were kind enough to let me borrow a hair dryer. Although everything is spotless, the bathroom was awfully small, had to be in side ways to take a shower. Good location though.

Room Tip: Dont choose the deluxe room. Itty bitty bathroom.

Nice clean hotel. Not the huge but decent place to stay. Yummy breakfast. Try their pancakes and corned beef. I expected the ref contains few refreshments and snack but it's empty. I suggest you guys to put some snacks and sodas to your room. Oh by the way this hotel is near at UST :)

keep up the good work!

Room Tip: Before check in make sure to buy some stuff that you will need and withdraw some cash. The location...

This hotel is located in Santa Cruz, an impoverished and very polluted area of Manila. Many homeless people line the footpaths of Rizal Avenue and Recto Avenue. However, they are harmless, and I felt safe even when walking through Santa Cruz late at night.

Despite the pollution and the poverty that characterise Santa Cruz, the location of Fersal Hotel is great. It is within walking distance to a bank and ATM machine (corner Alverez and Rizal Avenue) and a very cheap internet café (15 pesos per hour). It is a short walk to Bambang LRT Station and it is easy to get to the major attractions, e.g. Intramouros, The National Museum and the night life at Malate. The hotel is located about 8km from Makati (the CBD) and a 35 minute, 215 pesos taxi ride to the airport (depending on traffic, of course).

My room (Deluxe) was clean and cosy (loved the 1960s decor) although it was a little run-down. The room was dimly-lit, which I loved, as I detest too much unnatural light in hotel rooms. There is a carefully designed fire escape just outside the window in case of emergency (I had a back room). Strong aircon system, although the aircon unit was a little noisy. Very clean and reliable bar fridge. Weak water pressure through shower nozzle, and water was never hot, lukewarm at best. There was a flat screen TV mounted on the wall, which was well-tuned, with heaps of channels.

Unfortunately, you cannot make collect (reverse charges) calls from this hotel (the lady at reception told me that they were not "set up for collect calls"), and you cannot make calls to mobile phones from the rooms, only from reception downstairs, which is a tad inconvenient as staff and other guests are able to eavesdrop during private calls.

Reception staff were not that friendly (only one of the reception staff was genuinely friendly and went out of his way to assist me in planning some sightseeing tours). The staff were polite, but I just didn’t find them terribly friendly or approachable.

I would definitely consider staying at Fersal Sta Cruz again, BUT I would look for something a little cheaper first as a solo traveller, perhaps a local hostel. However, the rooms are an absolute bargain if there are two of you occupying a room as you can halve the cost of the room, which makes it great value.

A reasonably good choice for a solo traveller, with the best features being the clean rooms at a very good price, especially if you are sharing the room with someone else, the security at the hotel, and the hotel's location in relation to public transport, shopping malls and markets.

Room was supposedly Delux. See pictures.

A bit of a shocker. Firstly it was about 1000 pesos advertised on their website (a bargain, so we thought), but when booking, it was over 1200. Still cheap in anyone's books. But that's all the positive(s) this place deserves. Value for money is a personal taste at times, so I will give this a mid range and leave readers to make their own judgement.

The rooms on their website pictures looked good, fridge, clean etc etc. A much different picture awaited us on arrival. I am 6'1" 200lbs (185cm 90Kg) and I barely fit in the shower recess. I also had to back up to get in and out (more rightly - SQUEEZE IN & OUT) of the bathroom.

The bed mattress was about 3" thick and was made from thick rubberised plastic covering and filled with a poor excuse for some form of padding. The most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in, in any hotel. There was just enough room to walk between the end of the bed and the desk (see pics). Tiny old TV with poor reception, but it was better than nothing.

Food and room service is not available after about 9-9:30pm. That sucked big time.
No bar fridge, jug or other niceties (had complimentary soap, shampoo and sandles tho).

The main window (the curtained one in the pics) was sealed shut and non see-thru. The one in the bathroom was full of dirt and dust when opened. Sort of disgusting. Everything else was fairly spotless.

OK. It was a cheap price. But there are many better hotels and inns in better locations that offer better services and facilities for a similar price. I was obviously fooled by the pictures and write-ups on the websites.

This gives a whole new meaning to the word "Delux".

Room Tip: Cheap, Tiny and little to offer. Worst sleep ever
