“exceeded our expectations”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2012

We liked
- Very good level of service like in the majority of the Philippine hotels we stayed
- Very good room starting from the facility conditions, in-room supply of disposables and the interior design
- Friendly and extremely helpful staff that helped us a lot prolong our staying and even find an alternative hotel since by the moment we decided to stay longer the hotel had been fully booked (likely a bit later they managed to prolong the booking)
- Location at the centre of the city, not far from the airport (however the traffic in Manila is rather intense) and just five minutes of walking from the Robinson shopping centre with plenty of local and international brands ' retail shops (if you are interested in shopping or are in need of buying some stuff left home)
- Special offer allowing us to choose from the two options: free of charge room upgrade ( we preferred this option and were upgraded three categories up) or the airport transfer

We did not like
- The lounge bar which is too official and uncomfortable, with the lack of ambiance
- The incident with the transfer to the airport, when the transfer was charged to the room but after our arriving to the airport the taxi driver declared that the hotel had not paid him and we had to pay his services in cash (we refused to and directed him to the hotel again showing the copy of the hotel receipt where the transfer had been included)

We have typically stayed at the Peninsula in Manila. It is a great hotel, but for this trip its rates were a bit spendy. We tried something new, the Pan Pacific. It is a great alternative and far easier on the budget.

The room was well done and the breakfast equally well executed. I do not think that we have ever had bad service in the Philippines and the Pan Pacific was no exception.

One minor concern is that we were traveling (inbound) with a large pile of luggage. As three cases were gifts for relatives in Western Samar, we left them with the bellman expecting they would be locked away in a luggage room. We were surprised on our second or third day that there is no luggage room and our cases were sitting in an isolated corner of the lobby bar.

The Pan Pacific is a couple of blocks from the Robinson shopping center where hundreds of shops and restaurants are available. We did try the Korean restaurant across the street. It was basic but good. We also dined at the Japanese restaurant adjacent to the lobby. Passable, but not great.

I spent 10 nights at the Pan Pacific Manila.
- Executive suite I had was spacious, clean and well laid out with everything you need.
- I had my birthday while staying here and received a complimentary birthday cake...above and beyond my expectations.
- Great cafes located close by for coffee and breakfast if you do not want hotel breakfast

Negatives
- Outside area around Malate is dirty, lots of poverty and filipinos pushing you to buy girls, viagra and other goodies.

A clean hotel, very well appointed rooms, friendly efficient staff. This hotel has everything I needed in a hotel. Food was good, not cheap, but quite a good variety. I opted for the included breakfast buffet, and am glad I did. The hotel wasn't cheap, but fairly priced given the overall quality. I don't know if the location is great, it is close to the harbor which is nice, but I don't know if there is any good or better location anywhere in Manila. There are certainly a lot of worse locations. I would recommend this for a tourist or business traveler. It would be a real snob who wouldn't be happy here.

Room Tip: go for the harbor, rather than city view. opt for the breakfast buffet, a bit pricey but a good star...

Stayed over the 2011 Holidays.
The hotel is nice, clean and the location was good as there is a Mall nearby.
This was our first time in Manila. We wanted a luxury hotel. Its not a 5 star as they say but a good 4 star with some nice touch. My only 2 complaints are 1. Our flight arrived earlier than expected but still early in morning. Pan Pacific hotel reservation had confirmed days inadvance that we could acces our room free of charge, the chech-in insisted on charging us 90usd to access the room at 9:30 am. Even if the room was ready, the other alternative was to wait 2 ours in the restaurant or pool area to avoid the charge. After a 12+hours red eye flight, you want your
room. The room was relatively small but comfortable. The restaurant had an amazing 360 degree
view. Cocktails and food was good. The breakfast buffet was endless and tasty.
The hotel was attached to a complex with restaurants. The Chieese and Japaneese were good. The best was the Sushi counter on the first floor. The coffee shop made good lattees. The massage parlor, altough it seemed rundown had very good therapist. The foot massage was great after a day of walking in the city. The Karaoke bar looked like a front for a Bordelo, so we did a lap and didn't feel like we could commit to a spot in the bar so we left.
Second complaint, although the Concierges were very attentive, helpful and all, it was a bit exhasperating when each time we asked about a market or bargain malls that they would stair, sigh and not recommend for us to venture there. It became annoying as we have traveled to Asia many times before and are comfortable in large urban cities. That said, we abided by the advice, put safety first but were disapointed because Manila, from what we saw, looks more like a European or even Latin American city than an Asian Metropolis. Manila is not the place to shop, Mall of Asia is really for locals or tourists with kids. Greenhills mall was fun, like a giant flea
market filled with gadgets.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pool seemed a little quieter, as the hotel is in a busy area.

For years, we used another hotel in Manila. This trip, we decided to try something different, and found the Pan Pacific in the same neighborhood. What a pleasant surprise!

The Pan Pacific is located in Malate, which is not exactly an upscale area, but has pretty good shopping and dining options, and lots of local colour. There is a large, modern mall complex about one block away, and lots of smaller shops and restaurants. I walked all around the neighborhood at night, with cameras, and never felt unsafe.

The hotel itself is nicely decorated, and the rooms are fairly large, clean, and comfortable. The bed was excellent - very comfortable, with a variety of pillow types laid out. There is a hotel restaurant on the 21st floor, and a number of concession restaurants inside the attached dining complex. The hotel restaurant offered a good selection of local and international dishes, and everything we tried was well prepared.

But what makes this property special is the staff. From the time we checked in, every person we met called us by name. Everyone was warm, friendly, and professional. The butlers (concierge) were very knowlegable about the local area, and always on the spot with recomendations. Thea, in particular, helped me plan a great day around town on my day off from work. I had a problem with the television, and the engineer arrived quickly to make the minor adjustment.

Check in and check out was quick and efficient. The hotel offers good value for money, and a very comfortable stay. What more can one ask for?
