Manila Hotel is an historic old hotel (built in 1912) and the Philippines first 5-start hotel. Now it is best known for it’s top floor suite - the Mac Arthur Suite - “home” of General Douglas Mac Arthur (used as his command post during WWI while he was in Manila). It’s currently about $3,000 per night - an exorbitant sum in the Philippines. Locals refer to it as a “religious suite” - visitors exclaim “Oh My God” when they see this gorgeous suite and “Jesus Christ” when the see the bill.

Definitely a lovely place to visit if for nothing more than its history, but it is also one of Manila's finest options.

I attended a fund-raising concert in this hotel ballroom. I was so fascinated by the decors, drapes and lights on the ceiling. One word describes it- mesmerizing. The program was a bit long but as soon as it was over, my wife and I took time to walk around the lobby and enjoyed the Christmas motif at that time. Lovely evening indeed!

I stayed here last February 26 until February 28. From California, I called to tell them if they can pick me up at the airport because I'm traveling by myself. When I went outside the airport, I saw them right away because the guy with a hotel uniform was holding a paper with my name on it and the driver was very friendly and polite too! At the hotel, staff are always there to greet you and assist you. I never had a hard time checking in. The lobby is huge, food is very good, and my room is very nice, facing the Manila bay! There is no word to describe how happy I am during my stay in Manila hotel. I would definitely come back and recommend this to everyone! they have the best service!

Manila Hotel is a top class hotel. Located just outside the beautiful Intramuros (Manila's main attraction) it is a safe haven in this difficult city. Main building is a colonial palace but the best rooms are on upper floors of the new wing. I spent two nights in the hotel and they gave us a room with spectacular views as a gift for my birthday. The spa was great and so was the swimming pool. The restaurant was great too. Service was top class. They even organized a metered taxi to take us to the airport. Awesome!

Room Tip: Upper floors looking at the city have the best views.

This hotel is very good located when you don't stand against the bad aircondition of the city . It was once the first lady of Manilla and had very serviable personnel. Now there are still a lot of employees but most miss the customer-first attitude.
The rooms are fine, the badrooms include a large shower. Minibar is available.
The breakfast offer is very large & divers , all continents traditionals are available. Pitty that the service is not always outstanding. This was only the case when a female head was in charge.
The large swimmingpool is very attractive, the area around offers a lot of possibilities.
An ideal place to relax with a good book.
Certainly an hotel that I woul recommend.

Dated interiors, water spills to floor after each shower--poor seal of shower door, challenging to put on makeup with dim lighting in toilet.
BUT I would stick my magnification mirror with its suction caps on window and apply makeup watching my own Manila sunset as I get ready for dinner. Try the buco lambanog martini! Something new for me. And the bibingka too--almost as good as Aristocrat down the street.

Interested in all aspects of Manila's past I had to spend at least two nights at 'The Manila', the Grand Old Lady of the Philippines' hotel business with plenty of historical connections and on top in a still great location.

Only the building in front is really old, but even in the newer highrise in the back the rooms have furniture which evoque past days. And then there is the enormous and opulent lobby, where everybody has to go through and which is in the old part.

Before entering the hotel a detection dog sniffs the suitcases and one has to go through a security screening. At reception I had to queue up and it took a while until it was my turn, but then I was handed my room key before the regular check-in hour and on top I got a room on the 16th, the second hightest floor, with a fantastic view over the harbour and Manila Bay. I was really happy, and I also liked my room.

Very often hotels are for me a place to sleep, have breakfast and be somewhere else during the day. Not here. I spent much more time than usual in my room, reading and studying, and then I went to the hotel's outdoor pool and the sauna. Since there was too much hustle and bustle in the lobby and the adjoining ball room, some kind of Filipino Carnival with many people in disguise, I chose to spend the evening in my room, calling for one of their 'Healthy Option' meals from the menu and enjoying the fantastic sunset over Manila Bay.

There is a good, but in comparison to a taxi quite expensive airport transfer with a driver from AVIS. Free WiFi in the room has a good signal. There is plenty of staff everywhere, but many seem too self-absorbed and not really interested in the wellbeing of the guest. This was the case around the Swimming-Pool, the Health Club and in the restaurant at breakfast time. But talking about the breakfast the choice was incredible and excellent.

All in all I very much enjoyed my stay, especially thanks to my room.
