Everyone tells you to come here for the hipster experience, but was disappointed to see so many shops close between 5 and 6, since it is a tourist hot spot. By 7 everything, bar eateries, was closed. Expected more.

This is one of the places we often visit when in Austin because it is close to some of our favorite restaurants. There are a lot of quirky shops here, giving the feel of "old time" Austin. Our only complaint is the parking. Some years ago the Austin city fathers decided to go with angle parking where you have to back into the parking slot. Its hard enough to find an empty spot, and backing into one with all the heavy auto traffic on South Congress is almost enough to make you go elsewhere.

We stayed by the convention center so it was a nice walk down Congress Ave over the bridge to South Congress. Flagship Yeti store, vintage shops and lots of Southwestern art and souvenirs. The Tom's store was a hit with my adult daughters as was the Mexican Vanilla ice cream.

I loved this area. There were so many restaurants to choose from. This area is definitely worth visiting again.

We enjoyed a stroll down South Congress Avenue on our way to Allen's Boot Shop, and the Continental Club for some music. Along the way, we had ice cream made with liquid nitrogen and a delightful Japanese meal.
