Decent home cooking here with great people running it. A bit heavy on the sandwiches and burgers but there are some gluten-free and vegetarian choices. Their chili with mildly spicy cornbread was excellent as was their coconut crusted french toast! If you're in the area, stop in! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was depending on who is serving you, they can be pretty slow.

Stopped at Chauncey's for lunch on our way from home in New York to Manchester, VT. Being the middle of March in Vermont and also a Wednesday (at 1245pm), the restaurant was not crowded. We were welcomed to our table (seated next to a window where we could enjoy many birds eating seeds and suet) by a friendly server. We ordered simple sandwiches (VT smoked turkey and ham/chedder). Both were served with homemade potato (kettle) chips which were warm and crunchy. The sandwiches were excellent. Real ham, real turkey, real cheese, real bread...not packed deli meats or breads. Excellent value and quality. We will return.

We had made the trip Rte 7a but all of our favorite stops were closed for one reason or another. Since we had made the trip we had to have lunch at Chauncey’s. We love this place. I had the grilled ham and (VT) cheese sandwich with homemade potato chips. Real ham—not deli. My husband had the Reuben. So so so good. Can’t till the fall when we are again in the area and can visit again.

I asked a lady at the visitor center and gift shop at Hildene (Robert Todd Lincoln’s summer mansion) where we could grab a bite to eat heading south and was told I would probably be best to drive all the way to Bennington, about 30 minutes away. Less than half way there at Arlington, we came upon this little cafe. My wife had a bowl of chili and cornbread and I had a grilled ham & cheese on rye and a cup of their soup of the day which was vegetable beef. My sandwich was excellent and the soup was the best I ever had.
