The buildings were constructed by John Wise, but made famous by John Gadsby. Mr. Gadsby’s establishment was the center of political, business, and social life in Alexandria and hosted the likes of George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. Today the Museum offers tours, programs and special events.

Try dishes from the colonial period. Costumed servers and entertainers come around to speak to the tables. Try dishes that George Washington enjoyed.

We had a Sunday family brunch here and its an amazing place. George Washington ate here with his buddies. Food was good and reasonably priced. I had steak and eggs and they were prepared very well. Our waiter was excellent and was dressed in period attire and was able to give us a good history lesson. This is a fun place.

The food is wonderful, especially the roast beef! The atmosphere is the 1790’s. Service was excellent. If you like people speaking to you as if it were the 18th century, which I loved, go here.

Gadsby's Tavern is original and very historic. You can almost imagine George Washington come walking in the door any minute.

Self guided tour, so you don't have to worry about getting there at specific time. Leave about half hour. Several levels of old tavern, including dining room, bedroom, and ballroom. Very interesting- make sure to peek into old ice well at corner of building.
