“formerly great, but poor now”

Netherlands Carillon
Ranked #17 of 86 things to do in Arlington
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 17, 2017

The once great Carillon, a gift from the People of the Netherlands as a 'thank you' for liberation during WWII, has been allowed to degrade such that the structure is covered with rust and the bells cannot play any tune without sounding many false notes.

Not much to see, bells periodically chime, nice music. Adjacent to USMC, Iwo Jima memorial. Easy parking and nice views of DC.

This carillon was close to where we were staying. It gets played regularly and is a fixture in the area. It was a gift from Holland to the U.S. after WWII for efforts during the war.

When visiting the Iwo Jima Monument, the Carillon is really to close not to go check out. Don't know if they ever open the stairs on it, but the view would be awesome if they did. Go to this site to see the Iwo Jima Monument and check out the Carillon if time permits.
