Netherlands Carillon
Ranked #16 of 86 things to do in Arlington

I enjoy coming here for fourth of July festivities. Not only can you see the fireworks from D.C. but a few from the Maryland side as well.

A unique musical organ which I can hear from my apartment building which is across route 50. The structure is all metal, and one could climb all the way to the top. As the name suggests, it was donated by the people of Netherlands. Easy to get to from the Rosslyn Metro. From the Metro walk towards Fort Myer Base or Iwo Jima memorial, cross route 50 and you can see the tall structure along a bed of flowers. The walls of Arlington cemetery pretty close. From the Carillon one can enjoy a great view of Lincoln Monument, Washington Monument and the Capitol. The three line up pretty good and makes for great pictures.

Located in great park lands a short walk from U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial. You should see both monuments in a single quick trip if you have more time cross the street into Arlington National Cemetery.

The once great Carillon, a gift from the People of the Netherlands as a 'thank you' for liberation during WWII, has been allowed to degrade such that the structure is covered with rust and the bells cannot play any tune without sounding many false notes.

Not much to see, bells periodically chime, nice music. Adjacent to USMC, Iwo Jima memorial. Easy parking and nice views of DC.
