We stayed overnight at Kanemidori ryokan in Kusatsu. On arrival at the bus terminal, we called the ryokan and were promptly picked up in a luxury minibus. We chose to have dinner in a private dining room at the ryokan's restaurant which was around $75 /head which was expensive but worth every penny. Breakfast was nice but a bit too traditional for our western palates.
Overall, the room was clean and lovely, onsens (both indoor and outdoor) were clean and beautifully fitted out and service excellent. Not much English spoken but enough to get by. The ryokan's location was convenient to the main centre.
