The village can be reached by boat on the river or by bus from the Ilheus city bus centre. The bus ride is bumpy but an interesting and lively trip. The hamlet of Rio Engenho can be fun and interesting. The second oldest church in Brazil is here. A woderful old couple at the end of the road were planning to open a restaurant. they offered us drinks and should us around their humble plot of cacau trees, chilli plants and Guava trees. A good idea is to take an early bus, snooze and ideal away the lunch time and come back on the next bus.
