We stayed at this hotel for 3 nights at the end of a group tour of South America. The location is great opposite Copacabana Beach and there was plenty of choice at breakfast. The room was spacious and clean, what you would expect from this type of hotel. We stayed in room 115 on first floor. However on the night of Tuesday 28 November, a very loud humming noise started and at first we thought it was a lorry outside, but it went on and on, no lorry. I rang reception to report it at around 12.30-1am. and was told it would be investigated. The noise stopped around 2am. Later that same night I got up to use the bathroom and the door of our room was open. We told Reception the next morning and was told it would be investigated, however we had to leave the hotel at 4pm on the Wednesday and no explanation was been given before we left. We left our e-mail and note of what happened but to date no response. Also during our stay one of our swipe keys went missing.

Room Tip: Room 115 above entrance of hotel Very tinted windows which made the room seem a bit dark and dingey.

Dear guest,

We thank you to stay with us and to let us know about your experience about our services.
Our breakfast is one of the most famous in Copacabana, with several options of breads, cold cuts, fruits, cereals etc. We would like to know if there is something in particular that you have searched for and didn't find.
About external noise in fact we don't have control, but when this situation is internal we take immediate action.
About the door (open) in your room, we investigate in fact and we noticed that when you entered the apartment you didn't completely close the door until you locked it and also in this investigation done through cameras and reading door closing we did not identify any other entrance in your room.
About the key that you say there has been a possible theft, you report not being sure if you left or not, so that we don't observe, through cameras and door reading, any access to your room unit by strangers, we understand that the situation doesn't proceeded.

We hope to see you soon.

Best Regards!

Victor M.

We had two nights here and wished we had longer, overlooks the beach but in a side street, the rooms were very comfortable, Wifi was good and location was great. Rooftop bar lounge overlooked the beach and you could even see Christ the Redeemer statue.
The breakfast was the best we had in South America so much variety of everything.

Our needs were pretty simple. We wanted a nice hotel right off Copacabana beach, and that's exactly what we got. We had a fancy room with full frontal ocean view. The breakfast was good, services friendly and prompt. And none of that broke our bank.

We stayed here for four nights as part of our South American tour. The hotel location is perfect. It is right on Copacabana Beach and two doors down from the best hotel, the Copocabana Palace.

The rooftop pool is great. It has great views up the coast, to Sugarloaf and has Christ the Redeemer behind you. We didn't eat or drink at the hotel other than the breakfast. Breakfast was ok and didn't realise until the last day that you can order fresh omelettes. So if you stay just ask!

The rooms themselves are bit old and dark and small, feels a bit nineties. Shower was great though, very powerful.

Perfect spot for Copacabana and at great value for omeny

This hotel is definitely not the 4 star hotel it is advertised as.

While it has a great location across from Copacabana Beach, the rooms are very shabby and tired. They, along with the air conditioning need updating. Because of the warm temperatures, I needed my air conditioning on and it was so loud. It sounded like a Diesel truck idling! It made sleep difficult.

I did ask at the desk the next morning if it could be fixed. It was better, but still loud.

The food also needs some improvement. Breakfast offered nice options, but it was too bad they were either stale or cold.

I would definitely stay somewhere else the next time in Rio.

Dear traveler,

Thank you for coming to Trip Advisor and leave your experience in Windsor Excelsior Hotel.

I would like to inform you that any form of noise coming from the hotel's cooling system is not normal, and there is a team available to solve this type of problem. In any case, there is also a manager available to assist the guest in any situation.
But your considerations are very important for us to verify where we make mistakes and we can improve to maintain service. Thank you.

I look forwards to see you back in Rio.

Kind regards,
Charles Agostinho
