We had a pleasure of having Juliana as our guide, and there were just two of us. The tour lasts the whole day. And you might think ho it feels with temperatures well over +35. We can tell you: it feels fantastic, and time flies by so fast... First of all, our guide - Juliana - was a gold standard of her profession. Knowledgeable, patient, with a good sense of humour and very well (!) organized (which is not that common) - she made our day a truly memorable experience.
Secondly, no matter what you read in media or what other agencies tell you - just go and experience favelas yourself. It's so different from what you see on TV or imagine to encounter. For us, it was an eye-opener: instead of slum and drugs, we saw caring friendly people, working hard to sustain their families. (Our favela local guide was truly a charismatic person!) You have to be there, you have to touch and smell it, so to say, to understand what it is and how many stereotypes don't stand the proof with reality.
Just stop reading this review - book the tour, ask for Juliana, and you'll be glad you did it!More
