I booked this place a month in advance with a good discount (15%) through booking.com. It's on a quiet one way street (runs from the beach esplanade back to town) in the Catete neighborhood, part of Flamengo. We were well received by an enthusiastic concierge who spoke good English and made sure we were happily settled in. Only snag here was that I had requested a twin room and on opening the door encountered a double bed. Quickly fixed with another room on the same floor. Spacious, modern, TV, mini-fridge, lots of lighting options, electrical outlets, good shower, clean sheets, quiet air conditioning, closet with clothes hangers and a safe. Standard breakfast included in daily rate, fresh juices, scrambled eggs, sliced sausage, ham, cheese, various breads both rolls and sliced, toaster, fresh fruit like pineapple and papaya, usual coffee and milk, yoghurt. Pretty good in all. Computer access in the lobby. Hotel has its own garage parking although it's a bit tight for a pickup through the narrow entrance. The hotel is close to a busy commercial street (Catete, first intersection, 150 m away), which also has a good restaurant (Catete Grill, see separate review). Room service and hotel restaurant provide good options too. Check out was easy, paid on a credit card when you check in. Good stay, helpful staff all round who spoke English and Portuguese.

Room Tip: Fifth floor is the top floor, nice and quiet.

Hotel very very noisy. The AC : Can not use it at night because of the noise . Friendly staff but too old hotel !
7 night in this hotel... it was hard.
Poor breakfast, large rooms but you can not have a rest because of the noise of the street : windows are not isolated (acoustic)

We stayed there 3 nights in a family room. We had two twin beds and 1 double bed. Their twin beds are little bigger than the twin beds in the US. Double bed was more like a king size bed and it would even accommodate 2 adults and a small child.

The location was ideal as there were 2 subway stations in the walking distance: Largo do Machado and Catete. We always used the Largo do Machado station and the walk to the station took about 10 minutes. On the way to the station, there is a Mcdonald's and a lot of pastry shops and juice bars.
If you walk to the other side from the hotel, that takes you to a main road where you can catch the bus to go to Sugarloaf mountain. When you cross that main road you can go to the beach as well.
The staff was very friendly and they speak English very well. Breakfast was very good as it was a combination of a lot of fruits, scrambled eggs, ham, cheese slices, sausages, cakes and other sweets. A variety of juices were also available in addition to Coffee, tea and milk.
They also help you to get taxi cabs. Staff would call them and give them the instructions as most of the drivers don't speak English. Our flight to the US was at 11.00pm from GIG. So we were able to check out late by paying for 6 more hours. We had a wonderful stay at this hotel.

We stayed 3 days, it was a nice place to stay, our bedroom was big and confortable, the breakfast was plenty of fruits and very extensive in general, the reception staff was really nice and very helpfull.
We had problems with the conditioner air, the woman supervisor was rude (I speak portugues so I understood the girl changing the speach with us) , but the people who actually fix it was really polite and quick helping us.

We stayed a week at the Elegance Praia Hotel and would recommend it, we arrived by metro a 5 minute walk away and easy to find, the location we found to be excellent, there were many restaurants and shops within easy walking distance, this also felt a safe neighbourhood. The hotel felt modern and well maintained, the receptionist were always helpful with many of them speaking to a high standard of English, they helped us order a couple of tours with no problems. Our room was well appointed with ample room, two double beds fitted easily into the room, there was air conditioning which was essential even in the heat of a Rio winter, the bathroom we found quite adequate with a good supply of complimentary shampoo and soap.
The breakfast choice was extensive, especially the choice of fruit, we also had a meal in restaurant which was very nice, I recommend the salmon. Over all we were very pleased with the choice of this hotel.

Room Tip: was on sixth floor and had no issues with our room!

The hotel is well located, a 5 minutes walk away from Metro station. Copacabana is only 10 minutes metro ride away. Good connections for the rest of the city also (Corcovado, Pao de Acucar, center, etc).
The rooms are not fancy, but decent , clean and cover all needs of a good stay. The air conditioning can be a little noisy and wi-fi could work alittle better. The rest is really really good.
The breakfat is amazing with a lot of choices, plenty of fresh fruits, pastry and delicious pao do queijo :) .
The staff was very friendly and helpful, were always smiling were ready to help us and accomodate whatever needs we had. Special mention for Thiago at the reception and one of the smiling guys at breakfast :) .

Overall I would recommend this location and would surely stay there if going back. During our 14 days visit in Brasil , we came to Rio for 3 stays and always returned here. Very good value for money also.

It was an average hotel. The room was small the location not so sure if it was excellent.
I guess on my next visit to Rio I must stay in a hotel on Copacabana so I will feel the rhythm of the city. I must ad though that the staff were nice and helpful but not all were speaking English. The breakfast was average.
