The Pros: 1) Each of the dorm beds had privacy screens so you could have your own little space. Each bed also had it´s own reading light and electric outlet. 2) Good breakfast with many options 3) It is in a beautiful old mansion... architecture lovers will appreciate it for that 4) If you want to experience the Lapa street party on Friday night, this is walking distance (if you can handle the hill) 5) Although not huge, the front/common space is pretty nice.

The Cons: 1) It is at the TOP of a HILL. And by top I mean ITS UP THERE. Forget running out to grab something at a store or restaurant real quick, because the whole way back is quite a hike. And once you get to the front gate, there is another huge hill you have to climb up to the building. 2) On my last day there, I woke up in the morning to a line of ants crawling across my pillow and all over my bed. I was the only person this happened to and it hadn´t happened the previous nights so I am convinced this was a total fluke for some reason, but it still freaked me out a bit. Glad that was the last night there. 3) Neighborhood is a bit rough around the edges but not terrible if you´re used to city living. We stayed here a few nights and then moved to Ipanema for a change of scenery. 4) Even though the building is beautiful, you can tell it unfortunately has missed out on some maintenance on the back side where the dorms are hidden away. There was a water seepage problem in the corner wall of our room and it smelled very lightly of mold. Nothing terrible but I am sure if they don´t fix it soon, it will just get worse.

We stayed in the master suite and absolutely loved it.

Despite the steep climb up othe hostel with heavy bags, the place itself was great, the staff were friendly and very helpful, the breakfast was good. The room was very spacious and clean, with fantastic views from the great balcony. The place was surprisingly quiet for a hostel, people staying there seemed respectful and not rowdy.

Can't recommend this place enough if you want to stay in Santa Teresa.

We twinned our stay here with a few days at the beach, which was a nice contrast.

We had a fantastic stay at Bossa in Rio. We stayed in a double for the first night which was lovely. Lots of room, very clean and our own bathroom. Then we moved into the 6 bed dorm for 5 nights which was again very clean in great condition. We each had a locker and the beds had curtains so there was privacy for everyone. The most important thing about this place is the helpful staff. Juliano in particular is an absolute legend and was always happy to answer questions, make suggestions and just have a chat. There is a nice chill out area indoors and a couple of patios. Breakfast was good with a range of choices. Although Santa Teresa is a little away from the beach it's only a bus journey away and it means you get to enjoy the bohemian feel of Santa Teresa and the lovely shops, bars and restaurants. It's also close but not too close to Lapa which has a great nightlife.

The staff was especially friendly and helpful with any questions that we had about sight seeing in RIo. Bossa Rio Hostel is a great location if you want to see the Christ Redeemer and explore the Central parts of Rio. Really cool vibe in the hostel at night, great music and delicious caipririnhas. We stayed in the double private room, it was very comfortable and clean. We will definitely be back!

Room tip: Private rooms are well worth your money

Simply Awesome. Clean rooms, great breakfast, lovely communal areas, wifi, tv, just minutes from restaurants in Santa Teresa or Lapa... But also some nice little touches like- happy hour 2 for 1 caipirinhas (which were outstanding), free tea and coffee all day. What really makes this place so good is the attitude of the staff. Friendly, knowledgeable, very helpful. I cannot recommend this hostel highly enough.
