I booked a room for 2 people. I made the check in during the afternoon, alone because my girlfriend had to join me later.
When I arrived in the night with her, the guy named Marcio at the reception told me I was not allowed to stay with her in our room. I was surprised because I booked the room for 2 people. He told me I didnt fill a paper for her so she couldnt stay her. But if his colleague doesn't tell me about that, I could I know that I have to fill a paper ? So because his colleague didnt make his job properly, why should I pay the consequences ? If I book a room for 2, it's obvious I'm gonna be with someone else. Otherwise i book a single room and i pay less.
This Marcio was really rude and arrogant with me, I felt really humiliated in front of my girlfriend. he didnt suggest her to fill the paper which it would be fine, he said that she is not allowed to stay here and no negociation was possible. So at 3am we had to find an emergency solution with another hotel with free vacancies.
I said I'm going to tell the manager about this, he told me that he is the boss. But in fact he was not and I felt that he was making fun of me a lot.
He also told me that it's written on the guest book in the room that I had to fill a paper for her but it's not. And anyways dude, how could I have access to the guest book which is in the room, before the check-in ?

Dear Mr Loccou,

First of all I would like to thank you for sharing your impressions with us.
It`s really important to understand our guests perception about what we are offering.

We have a very rigorous policy about visits in the rooms.
Information about this policy can also be found in the rooms.

Sorry if we fail in communication, since your girlfriend was not during your check in. The rules need to be clear during check in. Especially if the reservation is for a double room and only one arrives, always warning about our visits policy.

Our front desk is renowned for friendliness and pleasure to serve.
I am really sorry for your experience did not be thoroughly satisfactory and we promise to review, analyze all your comments in order to not repeat this kind of situation.

I thank you once again and hope to have you as our guest again in the future.

Best regards from Rio,

I chose this hotel, as it was in a good location and there was a room with a bath (spa) available.
When I arrived at the hotel about 9pm after a long 27-hour journey, all what I wanted was to have a cup of peppermint tea which I brought with me, have a hot bath and go to bed. But there was no electric jug in the room. There was neither complimentary bottled water to start with, nor a sign about the suitability of tap water for drinking. There was a 120V socket as well as a 240V socket on the wall above the desk, but a type N plug which I brought didn’t fit.
When I called the front desk, a female staff said that I could borrow a plug free of charge, and sent a man with a basketful of various plugs to my room. I chose one that fitted perfectly. Then, he indicated that I had to sign a receipt that was marked R$10. As it was all in Portuguese which I couldn’t understand and he couldn’t speak English, he called the front desk and gave me a phone to talk to her. But she refused to talk. I called the front desk by the room phone, but she refused to answer. Then, a few seconds later she called and said: “Your name is xxxx and your room number is xxx” and hang up. So I had to go down to the front desk to find out that it was only for a record of me borrowing it. Why couldn’t she say so on the phone?
Regarding the tap water, restaurant manager told me that it wasn’t suitable for drinking, and that he could get me a glass of water if I wanted at that time. He advised me to go to a nearby supermarket to buy a bottle of water, and it could be refilled when I’d come down for breakfast. (So I went to buy large bottles of water for brushing teeth etc., but refilled a couple of small bottles to take for a trip every morning.) He also said that boiled water for making tea could be sent to my room free of charge. (So I had it delivered to me everyday.)
It would have been helpful for us, the overseas visitors who are not familiar with the situations in Rio, if all these things were clearly stated in the room.
I had requested a “quiet” room and they gave me a spacious room facing the side street on the 8th floor. It was certainly ‘less noisy’, but I still needed to have the air-conditioner on to cut down the traffic noise of the side street and the thunder-like noise of flushing toilet in the room above. As I began to feel cold and sneeze, I reported to the front desk about the faulty thermostat. But the plumber who came to my room laughed at me and said that it wasn’t cold at all. The only solution was to turn it off and wear earplugs every night.
Sometimes there was no hot water early in the morning or in the afternoon. So I had to wait for 10-15 minutes till the water was heated. But the plumber didn’t believe me. Bath towels and bed linens were thin. As there was no ‘face washer’, I asked for one. But they sent me a ‘hand towel’. So when I saw a cleaner next morning, I asked her if I could have a small square towel to wash my face. She said that they didn’t supply it.
When I sat down at a breakfast table, a waiter asked me if I wanted coffee. I didn’t ask if they offered English tea, as I was happy with coffee and additional hot water. Large variety of food was on the breakfast buffet counter, but no porridge or freshly cooked omelette of your choice. Nevertheless, I enjoyed a few pieces of red pawpaw, sliced mangoes, scrambled eggs or a fried egg on a piece of toasted whole-meal bread.
With all of these, the price for my room was almost the same as for a room in a five-star hotel near Sydney Opera House!
Most tours which the hotel offered accepted credit cards with a 5% surcharge, but some of them required a cash payment. One of the staff helped me contact a private tour guide and negotiate his fees for me, a solo traveller. He also required a cash payment.
Everyone at the front desk (except the female staff on the day I arrived), in the restaurant and at the door, as well as the cleaner was very kind and helpful, especially when I wasn’t feeling well with cold. Many thanks to the General Manager for taking note of what I’ve mentioned above for improvement.

First time here after have been several times to Fasano and copacabanapalace. It is a different hotel, less luxurious but definitely more affordable when travelling for business.
The view of the beach is amazing.

Bathrooms to be improved

Room Tip: Just ask to be at upper floors to have best view of the beach

We had 3 nights here and enjoyed our stay.

Location is not on the beach but only a couple of streets back. Easy walking to shopping areas great local cafes and bakeries

Rooms are clean and well maintained. Chocolates delivered every night was a nice treat.

Buffet breakfast is superb with all the choices you could wish for. Food is fresh cand fruits ripe. Temperature of all food is checked and recorded at regular intervals to ensure all is at the current levels.

Staff are very helpful and most speak very good English.

The best part of the hotel is the rooftop pool and bar. A great place to have pre-dinner drinks at very realistic prices..

Can thoroughly recommend the hotel.

Great location, extremely trained well staff and friendly and helpful. Lobby restaurant is good choice of food and service is good. Very reasonable . Spacious rooms and good view on top floor and nice working pool and pool bar . Bed in the room are old and need replacement otherwise everything is good. 2 blocks from Copacabana beach and you can take good walk in the morning or evening. Near to all good restaurants. Hotel lobby arranges all local tours.

Room Tip: It does not matter as hotel is inside 2 blocks you are not going to get any good view .
