Still lots of bars and drinks etc being sold on the beach, but fewer people than copacabana - worth a walk along the coast

The Leblon beach is a continuation of Ipanema beach but tends to be less crowded as its a little further from the hotel areas. The promenade and cycle paths go all the way to the end of the beach , which is fantastic with great sand and waves.
I'd suggest a short climb from the end of the beach for a drink in one of the small cafes overlooking Leblon beach . You can spend quite a while here looking right along the sands.

Not as crowded as Ipanema beach, Leblon is beautiful! Just observing people exercizing with their bikes or just jogging is worth the visit. The sea can be rough, sometimes.

Nice to walk, run, play beach football or beach tennis. Nice kiosks and unformal restaurants by the beach. Enjoy sunset!

I visited Leblon Beach in Rio de Janeiro in March, 2011. I did not actually bathe in this beach but the beach looked very enticing. I am not sure about the water temperature in this beach but when I attempted to bathe at the nearby Copacabana Beach the water was very cold.

There were many other activities taking place along the beach though. A lot of people were just relaxing on the sand, reading a book or lounging on beach chairs. There were many others playing beach football and some playing beach volleyball too.

People usually jog along the beach early in the morning or in the evening but beware there are many pick-pockets. Make sure and keep your belongings close-by and do not display expensive jewelry.
