Quite close to Café Colombo, this very traditional coffee shop is not quite as glamourous but serves good pastries and also meals at lunchtime. Prices ok, service could be better

On visiting Downtown Rio you have the chance to see both the Financial and Business Center of this wonderful city, but also the traditional part of it. Cavé, as weel as Colombo, are two icons of the Belle Époque period, when Rio adopted Paris as its model of a modern capital. At Cavé you can enjoy delicious pastries still today in a classical ambiance. It is located just a few hundred meters from Colombo, at the corner of Uruguaiana and 7 de Setembro st. Forget the diet. Bon appétit!

We ducked in here to get out of a downpour and could not have been happier. The sweets are homey and traditional, not fancy, and the 19th century decor is in perfect condition. A great place to stop in central Rio.

After reading an awesome review of this place, we went there looking for sweets and pastry, but the food is disapoiting, although the building is a very beautiful place.

I was there during the Olympics and it was on the to-do list of my friend. Known to be one of the oldest cafes in town. We were there for brunch, since we got up late in the morning. Even the simple chicken sandwich with brioche was yummy and the coffee was true italian. Best place for breakfast or lunch. Warm and cosy environment.
