Staying at Hotel Fasano was overall a great experience. The location is perfect, situated on ipanema beach, and close walking distance to copacabana. The pool is amazing. It is an infinity edge pool that has an incredible view of the ocean, mountains, islands and you can even see the Christ statue. The decor is hip and contemporary, the service throughout the hotel was very friendly and accommodating. It cost us $1,000 per night for an ocean view room. We were on the 2nd floor which was not great because the noisy street below was right in front of us and there are a million people walking around which doesn't give you a lot of privacy, we requested a room on a higher level but they didn't have any available. We got over it and it was fine. I wish we would have requested a room on a higher level when we made the reservation. The club in the hotel is fantastic. We're a married couple 34 yrs old no kids and enjoyed it there was a great DJ playing Brit dance music and American pop/dance music; the vibe was very cool. It was busy from midnight to 3am. The front desk staff are very friendly but a little clueless, so is the concierge. Dont rely on their advice for dinner reservations. We wanted to go to a churrascarria / brazilian steakhouse, they sent us to a dump called Porcao. The atmosphere was like a cheap Chinese buffet. There were a bunch of badly dressed tourists and empty tables at 8:30pm on a Friday night. We left and went to fogo de chao in the botafogo area and it was great. I hated to go there since its a chain that has restaurants in the US, but it did not disappoint and they have a great deck that overlooks the bay. I also hate to bring all this up in a hotel review but the point is do your own research don't rely on their staff to make good dining reservations for you they probably get a kickback for recommending the places that are on their "preferred list" (they also gave us a ticket to bring with us to Porcao that said that we were referred by hotel Fasano). One last thing, if you are thirsty they have bottles of water at the front desk that they will give you for free...that's a cheap-o comment but at hotels like this that charge a decent amount for water in the mini bar its a nice little score. :)

One of the top hotels in Rio de Janeiro!
Having said that, the focus of the hotel is design! The standard room (which is whatever room not heading to the beach front) is very small and illumination is not good.
Not everybody likes it, but I love those overhead (rooftop) showers that they have in their rooms.
To reduce it to the max: The hotel is all about the rooftop pool. Breathtaking view during the day as well as at night.
Negative is a daily rate of BRL 50.-- for internet access as well as staff always wanting to speak english with you.... Well, it may be ok if you're american, and that's what most of the guests are... But as a portuguese speaker I do not love that "service"...
Gym is small but quite well equipped.
Breakfast with all you deserve, but with BRL 70.-- on the more expensive side...
The hotel has one of the best locations in Rio. Close to Arpoador (to see the beautiful sundowns), close to "Posto 9", one of the best places to go to the beach (place of the locals) and not very far from Dias Ferreira (road with nice restaurants in Leblon).

This hotel makes the best use of its great location, e.g. sensational roof top terrace. Basic rooms are small but well thought through and pleasant, with a comfortable lay-out, amazing bed and bathroom, nice terrace. The hotel's very expensive breakfast is also excellent.
Despite classic hotel rip-off tricks (R$50 for 24h internet, R$80 for a bike), the room price appears in-line with alternatives in Rio. Receptionists would benefit from the gravitas that comes from experience.

Well I guess that the title is pretty clear...

We booked here for a weekend in Rio because we were told it is the best hotel in town, I don't know about the others but IMO the Fasano doesn't deserve the good reputation.

We booked rooms with "garden view" at 600euro per night (no breakfast) and our expectations were pretty high. well the room are quite small and dark. Indeed there is no "garden view, both sides of the hotel face very close concrete walls while the back faces an ugly building. The only nice view is in the Ocean front rooms which are a minority and they cost 1000 $ per night.

No free WiFi !! in spite of the high price they charge 10 euros per day (pathetic!)

Poor Service : we left in the morning at 9am to visit Rio and when we passed at the hotel around 1PM the room was still undone. We had top call the reception to send the maid.

The only positive thing is the rooftop terrace with the pool.

I will never go back to the Fasano.

We had an ocean view suite on the 7th floor and it was a beautiful room. The views were spectacular and there was plenty of room to spread out. However, the closet area was VERY tight. You could barely open the closet all the way without hitting the wall on the opposite side. The rainhead shower had great water pressure and felt awesome. But, there was no way to turn the water on in the shower without getting completely soaked in cold water on account of the way the door opened. We found the hotel quiet and peaceful. Room service was very prompt and accurate and the wait staff was very nice. By contrast, calling the front desk or housekeeping was often futile. It would ring off the hook with no response. When people did respond, they were extremely courteous and helpful. The concierge was also very helpful. But, at one point they misplaced our luggage for over an hour and it couldn't be found. The rooftop pool is gorgeous and is "the place to be", but it closes too early. By 10 pm it is shut down whereas we would have preferred being able to swim at night under the stars while sipping on a caipirinha. But, by far the biggest disappointment is the terrible gym. It is about 8 feet by 8 feet with nothing more than 1 treadmill, 1 bicycle, NO elliptical and some weights. For a hotel of this caliber and at this price-point not to have a better gym is pretty surprising. We had to spend 50 reals a session at a local Body Tech gym to find decent equipment. The overall experience could have been superb, but The details held it back.

I had a room on the 2nd floor, that looked at the beach. I sat in one of the chairs and just watched the people walk by. You have to remember, Rio is in South America and after being in hotels that were good and not so good, this place was great. Everything worked, though the room, like many in South America, did not have enough light to unpack your suitcase in the room after dark!! But the view, very nice. Ask for room 203.
