Amidst the Rock in Rio, I was hosted there for business duties. The staff could manage the crowd and I did not feel affected by the chaos in the city at that time. The breakfast was delicious and variate.

Just around the corner from Cinelândia metro station, this hotel is located in a vibrant and central downtown part of the city. We stayed here for two weeks in September last year, partly for business, mostly for pleasure (I had always wanted to visit Rio!) and it turned out to be a very satisfying choice of hotel and good value for the quality of the accommodation.

I opted for a Superior Room as the bathroom looked more spacious, and it didn't disappoint! The shower is one of the best and most powerful I've experienced at a hotel - excellent water pressure and temperature control, plus it's enclosed well. The only minor downside is you can easily hear the noise of the shower from the room next door as the wall is quite thin, but it's only an occasional disturbance. The bedroom also has plenty of space and the beds are comfortable, everything is attractive and clean. The housekeeping respects your privacy and doesn't enter if you don't want to be disturbed.

There is a rooftop swimming pool area, which offers an excellent view of the surrounding area - you can see Sugarloaf Mountain clearly and Christ the Redeemer faintly in the distance. You'll find a bar near the pool so you can get drinks and snacks while up there, and choose to sit inside or outside. The pool itself is rather small, and doesn't have much depth. There is a very modest gym on a level above the rooftop, it's a little awkward to reach as you have to take the stairs from there. It has a couple of excellent running machines, some weights and not much else.

The restaurant offers quality cuisine and prices to match. The choices are limited for vegetarians but we loved the spaghetti and vegetable pasta dishes, and the freshly-made lemonade is very, well, refreshing! It's busier there in the morning and afternoon but not so much in the evening (possibly due to the expense). It's easy to find other restaurants nearby if you fancy some variety, but we were very happy to come here most nights. Exploring the local surroundings a little, you will find pharmacies, a McDonald's, Starbucks (always very busy), several mini shops selling mineral water and snacks etc, night clubs, a park which it seems is always closed, and a large fountain area where pigeons congregate.

There is a shopping district within 15 minute's walking distance where you can find many stores, but if you want to make the most of Rio it's a must to become familiar with the transport system especially the metro. Fortunately this is a very central location for all transport connections, you just need to decide where you want to go and make a plan. We visited Copacabana a few times by taking the metro and walking a short distance.

I'm sure there are several great places to stay in Rio, but if you're happy with the location and your budget isn't too tight you won't go far wrong with the Windsor Asturias!

Room Tip: The Superior Rooms have the best bathrooms

I stayed in this hotel for 4 nights with my husband. Hotel has a great location, close to metro. However Sunday was very quiet and actually we felt afraid in the streets. Because everything was closed and in the roads there were only homeless people.
During weekdays it was okay. But you need to be careful indeed for nights.
Hotels roof has an amazing view and the restaurant in ground floor was a bit expensive. (Approximately a pasta was 40 brezilian real.)

Clean comfortable room, very decent breakfast, staff most helpful, but most importantly - the great location. We could walk everywhere, or almost everywhere. The area felt safe even in the evening. Would highly recommend

Good option in the centre of Rio. Rooms are good and space. There are gym, swimming pool, good breakfast.
Two points were not good: check-out and concierge. Toke too much time to do the check-out and the concierge doesn't help me find a cab
