...and have a room with a view. On two occasions I wasn't but the rooms, although small are fine, decently equiped (although one should bring its own shoehorn as the item is nowhere to be seen). Service is fine, hotel is spectacular from outside and views from the bar and pool are stunning. Very trendy bar come Thursday, restaurant is good for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Definitely an option for a business (or not) stay in Sao Paulo. Beware however of the very (very) slow internet WiFi and of the constant need to log-in if you have more than one internet access requirement (after about an hour you'll be remembering the unique spelling your name and room number by heart!).

Room Tip: Ask for views over the Park

This hotel has a lot of personality--mostly wonderful, but it's as far as you can get from a bland chain hotel with beige everything. Every detail has been considered and designed, sometimes well and sometimes strangely. The staff is excellent (I don't speak Portugese) as is the food. There are a lot of extras--a good glass of champagne on arrival, a new pastry every night at turn down, a personal trainer and water slide in the gym.

A few drawbacks:
-the rooms are smaller/almost cluttered with design
-in such a rainy city, they don't provide an umbrella in the room or at the door
-for shopping and restaurants it's a 10 min/$20 cab from r Oscar Freire/Jardim

How it stacks up:
1. Emiliano (one of my favorite hotels in the world--exquisite)
2. Hotel Unique (great value, very interesting, next to the amazing park-Ibirapuera)
3. Fasano (good location, fun, more trendy than substantial)
alternate-Hyatt (terrible location, good value, bland)

Firstly, thank you very much for choosing hotel Unique.
Your sensible observations and keen eye for services and facilities are very helpful for our improvement.
We are already looking into your great suggestion on the umbrellas. We do offer them to the guests at the front desk upon request, but we are planning on extending it to all the rooms.
I hope to see you back with us on your next visit to São Paulo. We will be waiting for you with a nice glass of champagne.
Yours sincerely,
Fabiola Carezzato

I just stayed at Hotel Unique a few weeks ago on a family vacation. It was a great place to stay while exploring Sao Pualo. Six quick things to note:

1. Very very cool architecture. Just look at the photos to see what I mean. Every single room in the hotel (including the workout space, lobby, and restaurant) are all very colorful and uniquely designed.

2. Most of the concierge staff know moderate English, but you should still be ready to interact with basic Portuguese words.

3. Easy to get a taxi/car from the hotel.

4. For Runners: The hotel is located just 2-3 blocks from a park, which offers a good place to run without the traffic and business of the city. The park is full of runners and offers many different routes and trails (but, no hills). The hotel also contains treadmills, a swimming pool (usable for laps), and a weight room. Great sauna, steam room, etc.

5. The food in the restaurant is great. A little pricey, but the meals are worth it. Great to have drinks by the pool overlooking the city.

6. There is a waterslide in the swimming pool area. If you are an avid slider, this is a great hotel to book simply for the use of the slide. Warning: slight bump in the slide towards the end.

Worth the price. Exceptional architecture.

This is one of my favorite spots in Sao Paulo.
Love the modern architecture inspired by architect Ruy Ohtake, protégé of world renowned Oscar Neimeyer!

Located in the well-heeled residential area of Jardins, just meters from Ibirapuera Park, São Paulo's largest green area.

Do not miss the flloor to celiling bar area in the hotel's lobby, the city's panoramic views from the rooftop terrace pool area, as well as the fantastic food at Skye restaurant!

Stayed here for two nights in November, for work.

It's a strange hotel, but mostly in a good way. When you approach it from the street, it's like it landed from outer space - it looks so out of place compared to its plain-looking surroundings.

Service
The staff were friendly and quite professional, though I get the feeling that they're not used to being fully occupied or to dealing with too many guests at one time. There's no real system at the front desk, for example, which is very nice and friendly when there are only a couple of people waiting aroud, but a bit chaotic when things get busy.

Rooms
Lots of photos from other reviews for you to see, so I'll just say my room was compact, clean and comfortable. I think others have said this, but I'll say it too - these rooms aren't really 5-star or deluxe - they're 4-star, if you're being fussy. Nice toiletries - Bulgari green tea.

Really irritating lifts (elevators) - pitch black inside, so you can barely see the buttons, and definitely can't see who else is in there with you. I know that's meant to add to the atmosphere and be very cool etc, but it doesn't work.

Food
Had a really good breakfast in the rooftop cafe, and a late night room service burger (ridiculously salty but delicious in a dirty kind of way, like from a kebab van, if that makes sense?) The rooftop cafe morphs into a kind of hip bar/restaurant at night, and gets packed out, so book if you want to have dinner there. Prices were fine by London standards, but I'm sure that's expensive for Brazil..

Didn't use the gym, but did sit by the rooftop pool one afternoon. Access is via the cafe, which is a little odd, and the pool itself is small and designed more for lounging by than swimming in. Dotted around the edges are a few loungers and funny foam block things. Incredible views of Sao Paulo.

Business facilities
I think these are a little lacking. Ok this won't apply to everyone, but if you're planning a conference or meeting here, you need to know that the hotel isn't equipped with e.g. a colour photocopier, or a proper business centre...

A short stay but overall a good one. Would I go back though? Probably not. The rooms, while stylish and fun, are too small, and there's a feeling that the place is just a bit too in love with itself..
