Our holiday was just like The Curate's Egg - it was OK but nothing special! We stayed for a week in Nessebar at the Marina Palace in August. The locals told us it was the hottest week of they year and it had been in the high thirties and on two days it was in the late fourties. On our arrival they showed us to our room which was opposite a rather busy road so we asked to upgrade to a sea view room which had a partial view of the sea but you could still hear and see the road. The hotel room was very basic but clean. The air conditioning is a bit weak but perfectly decent. There was a bit of music at night but you could hardly hear it and all was silent by eleven o'clock.

We are very glad we stayed in Nessebar and Sunny Beach! We went through Sunny Beach on an excursion and the place looked awful. It was tacky, dirty and full of uncouth youths running wild all through the night. We spoke to a couple who were staying there and said the music didn't stop until 5 o'clock in the morning and all they could hear was a 'thump, thump, thump' of the awful music! So I suggest you stay in Nessebar and not Sunny Beach.

The beach was very nice and although big there were always plenty of sun beds which cost 22 lev if I remember correctly to rent for a day. The worst thing about the hotel was definitely the food. When we read other reviews saying how awful it was, we just thought to ourselves that they were obviously the typical Brits - expecting a cooked breakfast each morning so we thought nothing of it. When we go on holdiday we are they type of people who expect and enjoy foreign food as that is what you eat in a foreign country, we would never eat British food in another country. However, the food was just disgusting! The juice (either apple or tropical) tasted of water, the bread was of the sort you eat on an aeroplane! Even the melon was dry and tasteless. We only had breakfast in the hotel so we ate out each night in Old Nessebar where the food was alright but nothing special compared to the food in Corfu or Italy but then again we didn't expect much more.

Old Nessebar had many, many stalls selling various bits and pieces but all of the same variety. The old churches were lovely to visit but that's about all I can say for it. One bad point about Old Nessebar is that people from restaurants make a bee line for you and try to persuade you to eat in their restaurant. It was a mere 5 minute walk into Nessebar which is very handy.

The main disappointment about Bulgaria is that there wasn't much culture. There were no great places to visit like we thought their may be. We went on several excursions (Jeep Safari, Aquapark and Virgin River and Sozopol trips) and the views were nothing spectacular, just a lot of grass and rolling hills! The Jeep Safari was VERY rough and bumpy but I'm glad we did it. The aquapark was fun for the children and to my surprise it was very clean with many life guards. The Virgin River and Sozopol trip was quite interesting and we were able to visit various relics.

Overall I had a lovely holiday, the sea was warm and pleasant and we were in a nice little area. Bulgaria itself was a bit of a disappointment as it wasn't really beautiful but it made a lovely summer holiday!

The hotel is nice and clean and the air conditioning in the rooms work very well. Doesn't work so well in corridors and other areas. We had a good view from room of sea and beach and it had a little balcony you could sit out on. Rooms a reasonable size and they have reasonablr range of TV but no British stuff. They have a very nice modern lift which runs on the outside wall. The location is good and it's only a short walk over the causeway to Nessebar old town or in the other direction to the clean sandy beach. The opnly negative point is that the food is awful, including breakfast. For this reason alone would not go there again. Also don't think it'sd quite a 4 star hotel.

Having stayed in Sunny Beach last year this was a different holiday in Nessebar, it is still the old Bulgaria, it isnt quite geared up for tourists and the food is very much Bulgarian fare. The hotel was lovely, the pool is nice but its too shaded for my liking and you couldn't swim in it as it was far too small. The hotel bar wasnt too expensive and it was very up market compared to last years in Sunny Beach. Breakfast can become a little boring but i find that anywhere i go. If you go on the beach be prepared to pay 21 levs for 2 beds and a brolly (£11) and in a different section it is 30 levs (£15). Get your water from the little shop on the way to the beach, its 0.80 levs for a small sparkling, if you go into the bar on the beach its 1.50 for a small still. It is annoying that people try to get you to eat in their resturants but one of them does really well where the others are empty. We took a trip to Sunny beach and found although the beer was still 50p a pint the food had almost doubled or in some case tripled. The only plus side was the beach beds had pads on them whereas in Nessebar they didnt so it was a rather uncomfy weeks sunbathing. If you want to go into Sunny Beach there are various bus stops but we went into the old town and the bus ran every 15 mins and was 1 lev each way. We took £400 for the week and brought home £10 so it was still cheap. A little tip, dont have food on the plane, buy something before you set off, its horrible. All in all a lovely holiday and i would not hesitate to go back

I have just returned from a short holiday at Marina Palace in Nessebar, and I do have a few comments to make about this place. On the good side, the hotel was clean, the room was spacious and the location and view were nice. However, there are far more bad points. The air conditioning hardly worked, the water in the shower had no pressure at all, the wi-fi didnt work at all (I had to use the connection of a different hotel nearby). I had chosen this hotel especially because they said internet connection was available in the room, so I was very dissappointed. When we complained about the shower, the receptionist said he would send someone over to check, but he didn't. Also, the breakfast wasn't too great, there were plenty of things to choose from, but all were tasteless and insipid. The pool is small and shallow, only fit for children, and both the irish bad and the sky bar were deserted at all times, making them both extremely boring. I would defenetly not return to this hotel.

Just back from a week's stay. The Marina Palace's location is perfect and the views from the pool are fantastic. The room was large and spotless and we had clean towels every day. We were on a bed and breakfast basis and the choice was enormous. They catered for every nationality. Some guests we spoke to were on half board and advised the evening meal was not so good. However it is so cheap to eat out why bother going half board. Would definitely recommend this hotel and would also visit again.
