We toured this museum with a guide and it was well worth it. The museum is relatively small but it is free to wonder around.

Located across the street on one corner of Plaza de Armas, the building serves two functions; one being the history of La
Serena and the other earlier art. It consist of two floors, the first having to do with a ‘local lad makes good’, in that a former President has his past demonstrated in pictures and personal objects. The top floor consists of various early objects of the city’s past. We were asked not to take photos so I can only suggest that we found the museum of interest, even right down to the square headed nails visible in the polished floors. Incidentally the former President Videla is credited with the ‘remake of La Serena’ in that he played a key role in the city’s new face.

This home of a past president doesn't hold much in historical significance, but it is free. Photos of La Serena in the past, an old home, and clothing of the era were worth a walk through.

This museum is free to enter and has some interesting displays.

It offers a nice insight into the past of this region and also has a great photo gallery on the second floor.

I came here to kill some time during a trip to La Serena. It was very interesting and definitely worth the visit. Plus it's free, so why not?

I'll be honest, I wasn't that interested in the feats of President Videla beyond him beating every other head of state to visit Antarctica. I was more interested in the ordinary items from 1950's Chile. I had fun comparing them to items from the same era that my grandmother owns. I particularly enjoyed what looked like an early, home-made version of a View-Master. Also, some of Videla's wifes clothes are beautiful, even today. Definitely worth the money!

I wasn't expecting much and sometimes that makes a difference. This was the residence of Presidente Gonzalez Videla and is furnished with many items from the mid 20th century. There are lots of news articles which explain what happened in Chile under his administration. There were also other rooms with even older artifacts from La Serena's early days centuries ago. Finally, there were a couple of rooms with newer art, so this was a fun and interesting house to tour in La Serena.

Interesting and informative museum including genuine artifacts. This is a nice tribute to a president who loved his hometown. The museum also features a variety of international articles which help any visitor to make a connection. When I was there, there was also a wonderful temporary exhibit on regional legends. Definitely worth a stop!

This former home of a Chilean president also houses a large and diverse art collection, as well as a display of Videla's personal effects, including a parka used when the president visited Antarctica during Chile's claim of a wedge of Antarctic territory. Its location on the Plaza de Armas makes it a must-visit on your trip to La Serena.
