Rooms are clean and spacious. Restaurants and shops are within walking distance from the hotel. Staff are helpful - I called the operator (called room service but no one answered) to ask for some ice after 11pm. She said that the restaurant was closed but will try to get me the ice. The ice was delivered to my room 10 min later. Food during breakfast is average and limited in variety. No western variety. Wifi doesn't work well and connection is slow.

The stay was overall ok, pretty clean room, with basic necesseties met.

But in terms of service, I have to say that much to be improved on. Bellboy and manager saw us with many luggage but no greetings or assistance was given.

Breakfast was edible.

This is at most a 3 star hotel primarily for the Chinese as neither the front desk staff nor the service staff could speak english.

that apart the hotel is well located in a shopping area which both street & branded shopping close by as well as Pizza Hut, Mc Donalds & many coffee shops etc.

Our room which was on the 8th floor was satisfactory.

The CON is the breakfast which is primarily for the chinese visitors with very few dishes meant for the english/continental & the whole eating area has the typical chinese smell which can be overbearing for many foreigners.

As the name stated, Quanzhou Overseas Chinese Hotel is meant for the Chinese (overseas or local alike) as very few (in fact) no western tourist I saw during my stay with this hotel. This was also reflected during the breakfast serving, where almost all the food were Chinese (congee/porridge, etc) and only few selection of western food. I had problem communicating with the front desk staff as they did not speak English or understood very little English.
The location of the Hotel was good , walking distance away from few tourist attractions and the popular 'Delicacy Food Street'. My room was spacious and very clean and quiet. Price-wise is average for this old property.

As part of a temple trip that my temple orhanises every year, this is the hotel of choice. As its name suggests, this hotel is well known amongst the chinese diaspora that visit quanzhou from Taiwan, Singapore and other parts of China. The last time i stayed at this hotel was almost 10 years ago and the very first time i stayed in this hotel was as a child on my first temple trip to China, almost 18 years ago.

This hotel has an air of familiarity as i kinda grew up staying at this hotel whenever i went China, the most remarkale thing about this hotel is that in the many years since i last visited, the scent of the hotel has never changed. The lobby layout has and the rooms have definitely been refurbished and facelifted, a welcoming change from the old dated layout of the hotels of the early 90s.

However do not expect a modern and chic hotel. The room still retains its 90s feels, albeit now with a flat screen TV and cable TV (which only has dialect and mandarin speaking channels - No HBO or International channels available)

Location wise is quite ideal as it is a short walk away from a few modern and chic shopping streets and a supermarket.

It seems to be the venue of choice for weddings as every night we were there, including weekdays, there was a wedding banquet happening at the restaurant.

View from the room is quite nice to, a good unblocked city view offers a nice chilly morning breeze as well.

10 years on, this hotel, apart from the facelift hasnt changed much and i do not expect it to change anytime soon too.
