Besides being connected to an amazing mall and the Winfrey Hotel, Merks has the feel of a neighborhood bar and grill. The service is excellent! The potato wedge apps are spectacular. However the Alabama Stoup is just outstanding. Not to spicy yet very tasty. The rice and cornbread make the whole dish super!!

Recently my wife and I stayed at the Wynfrey Hotel at the Riverchase Galleria. While the hotel is connected to the mall and therefore other food options exist nearby, the only two on-site restaurants are Merks and Shula's Steak House (I am reviewing both Shula's and the Wynfrey separately today also). The best way to describe Merks is it is like one of those "identity-less" bar and grills found scattered in every major airport. They're all the same. The food is ok, but not great. The servers are friendly enough, but all looked over-worked and over-stressed the atmosphere is loud and not very inviting. It's just kind of the bar and grill equivalent of Denny's... You're not going to get a bad meal, but that's about the best I can say. We ate there twice during or stay. Both times were ok, but nothing more. My thought would be that the restaurant in a hotel like the Wynfrey would have been a little better.

Part of Hyatt Hotel at Gallariea this restaurant has an awesome buffet breakfast featuring an omelet station. Other good offerings include scratch biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, breakfast casserole and toasting station. Service is friendly but slow, needs more staff.

Best food I've had so far. Great service, prices and food. If you're staying at the Hyatt or walking around the galleria, treat yourself to a great meal.
