“Mostly vegan temple food”

This restaurant is not 100% vegan. It's Buddhist, therefor butter and milk are in some of the dishes. Thankfully they tend to be rare and pretty easy to spot. If in any doubt just stick to the amazing selection of whole vegetables. They also serve brown rice.
This restaurant is exception value. Payment is by donation. The standard donation is 5 yuan per person. Get in the queue and drop the money in the brown bowl next to the rice.
It can get busy around meal times and the best food runs out fast. Recommend arriving 5 mins before opening for swift service and good selection.
Also be warned... you MUST finish every last grain of rice on your plate and return your plate to be washed. Failure to do so is frowned upon and may result in an angry reprimand.

All vegetarian buffet for 5 RMB. It is associated with a local Buddhism organization and run by mostly volunteers. People who dine here are expected to be quiet and not waste any food. The quality of food itself is pretty good - simple yet flavorful vegetarian dishes.

The food is healthiest, tastiest and almost free. Too good to be true in a place where salt has been replaced by MSG, water by oil and vegetables by meat. Highly recommended and i feel its a charity and a very compassionate action by the some people.. My thanks to the owners or organisers and we can actually pay more than 5 yuan, There is no way they can make profit by selling so delicious food at 5 yuan.

Thanks

We have struggled to find genuine vegetarian restaurants in Yunnan, This one is popular enough that local shopkeepers can direct you to it. It's a little difficult because it is on a small alley alongside the temple.Turn west on the street at the McDonalds, go south on the next big street until almost at the temple and it is up the alley on the right (west). They have buffet lunch (11:30 to 13:00) and dinner (17:30 to 19:00) at an incredible Y5 per person. The food is tasty and not oily so it is a break from too much oil on food. At this time there is no breakfast. It has a religious (Buddhist) slant which makes it very nice. I recommend it highly.

Please note this place has moved from Honglong Alley. From Honglong Alley walk north up Boi'ai road and turn left just after the temple. The new location is at the top of that road on your right. Still 5rmb all you can eat veg buffet, simple but tasty food. A nice break from other oil heavy Chinese food.
