We came for dinner and managed to get a table. It has a lovely roof terrace although it is rammed with tables. We were really impressed with the food and the 4 star reflects that, although the service would be much lower!
We had the octopus salad and shrimp pasta to start. The salad was fresh and delicious. The pasta was amazing! Tasty, fishy and creamy. I had wanted it for my main but the waiter said it was medium sized so I wasn't sure if it'd be enough (he didn't elaborate, it would've been helpful if he'd said that lots of others have it as a main or something!) so instead my other half had it for a starter and it was too much! But delicious so he ate it all! Then I had the beef stew and gnocchi which was lovely, like my mum's stews! The gnocchi was not as soft and pillowy as I'd have liked (quite stodgy). My partner had a delicious John Dory, the best fish we've had so far and perfectly cooked.
Unfortunately, the waiter let this place down. We'd asked for tap water and he said still or sparkling, so I repeated tap water and he repeated what he said. We got bottled water in the end but when we'd paid our bill, we said politely that he could've made it clearer that they don't do tap water. He became quickly very defensive and aggressive and argued with us. We were only trying to give advice but he obviously didn't like it! He'd been sullen and disinterested throughout the meal and we'd heard the people on the next table say they'd like dessert but he didn't offer them (or us) a menu. In fact other than take our order, he didn't speak at all! We informed the manager (although our waiter lied and said he wasn't in) and he was very apologetic and embarrassed. An experience like that can ruin a meal but luckily the food was excellent and we'll remember that. Time to retrain or replace some staff so that the service complements the food.
