Friendly & helpful staff, cool building with nice atmosphere

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Aug 20, 2014
My son and I stayed here one night prior to flying back home to the U.S. The staff were quite friendly and helpful. The rooms have names, and we stayed in "Ginger". Nice large room with a view. It had a large bathroom, nice furnishings, cable TV, and very effective air conditioner. Our room was set up with a single double bed, and our request, the staff promptly brought in a mattress and bedding and set up a second bed atop a couch that folds into a bed. We tried the restaurant for dinner. It had a small menu containing more than a few fresh and tasty items with local flavors. Our early departure in the morning was prior to breakfast, and we were offered a snack to take with us. Most enjoyable stay although for just one night.

-I stayed there for 4 or 5 nights, I can't remember exactly the amount since I had to cancell some nights due to a sudden trip to Cuenca.

-I stayed in their shared room for men, so maybe my opinion could differ from others.

-The personnel really desire to help guests, they're mostly young locals working part-time. It was my first time in Ecuador, so I was full of doubts, but since the very first mail I sent to them I got all the questions answered back.

-But I had a really odd meeting when I came back to the room one day. Maybe I had to warn the personnel, but I was so confused and I just had Cuenca in my mind to think about a warning. I came across a boy and a girl together in the top of the bunk bed! o_O They obviously had to go out without me saying anyhting to them. Please be careful with the people you allow to enter to the hostal, as they're just a couple wanting to find a place, they could be robbers also.

-Despite of the confusing experience, I can't help but remember the work of the Manso staff and the little but interesting store they own. Thank you for your help!

Room tip: If Manso seems good to you for any reason, stay at the non-shared rooms.

Dear Chocolate: Thanks for your kind comments about our staff.

I am kind of worried about your remark about the couple in the upper bunk bed. I read that your stay was in September 2013 but your comment is from 3 days ago. Would you be so kind to let us know when did you stay with us? We need to find out what went wrong that day. We are extremely careful in not allowing visitors in our shared rooms; that should not have happened.

Please reply to ricardo@manso.ec

Thanks again!!

In a nice safe area along the riverbank, close to sights and shopping. Staff is helpful and there is a computer for guests to use. Two vegetarian entrees offered: quinoa burger and lentil burger. $5 taxi to airport. Walk to the "iguana park" but don't walk under the trees as you might get "rained on!"

Was in the women's dorm which had its own bathroom. Bring a padlock for the wooden locker. Your bag probably won't fit into a locker, so take out your valuables to lock in the locker.

It's right across the street from the river. Enjoy a long walk by day or night, plenty of police around. McDonald's not too far away if that's your thing. If you want something to drink at an odd hour, there are drink vending machines across the street. Also close to internet & phone cabins. A children's area there too.

A beautiful hostel. Ideally located on the Malecon, this hostel offers a nice atmosphere, with lots of colours, stylish decoration and a boutique. Extra clean and with AC, which is quite useful with muggy Guayaquil. Complimentary breakfast was really very good.

Room tip: Choose a room that does not look over the Malecon. Make sure you have AC.

Stayed here for two days and it was the perfect location. Close to the airport and bus station. Really safe. Right beside the water, walking distance to las penas and beautiful buildings and churches. Complimentary breakfast was delicious. Serving eggs to order and fresh juice. Have vegetarian lunch and dinner options. Staff was friendly. Only downside was it was a bit loud but it's to be expected in a busy part of a city.

We took the 'white room' which was really big and beautiful! Huge shower and great bed. The hostel itself is beautiful and has really atmosphere. Location is excellent-right in front of the boardwalk and in a good safe area. Very much recommended!
