I fondly remember Tea Sanctuary for the exotic location & the warmth & friendliness of the staff. We booked this place for our honeymoon & were put up at the Upper Bungalow - one of the non-heritage bungalows. The room was basic, but clean & well maintained. The staff was very cordial and helpful. Food was homely and delicious.

The bungalows are located within the Kannan Devan Tea Estate at strategic locations. The views f the lush green plantation amidst the hills are breathtaking, just like a picture postcard. One could sit there for hours hearing the rustle of the leaves and chirping of the birds. For a nature lover like me, it was a surreal experience.

I would definitely recommend this place to my friends - a place where one can break free from the din & bustle of city life & enjoy a few moments' of peace & quietude in the lap of nature.

We stayed at Parvathi Biungalow, Tea Sanctuary, Munnar in the last week of December. The cottage looks pretty, set in a lovely garden with flowers and vegetables and even a strawberry patch! The cottage offers a panoramic view of the surrounding tea estates. The plus side is the natural beauty that you are surrounded with, being just 3km away from Munnar town. We had the whole bungalow to ourselves making it a home away from home. The children aged 9 to 17 had a free run of the place and played soccer on the lawns to their hearts' content. The staff were polite and accommodating even if not very efficient. They were able to accommodate our driver on the premises too. You feel completely cut-off from the rest of the world and lost in another time.
I had called the previous day and informed the person in charge that we would be arriving in time for lunch and gave him our menu. We arrived at about 12:30 pm and were served lunch at 3pm!! The food was hot and homely with rotis, rice, dhal sambhar, rasam, vegetable and a non-veg dish. You must tell the cook in advance whether you'll be in for a meal and give him the menu. Since there is no printed menu, one has to ask the cook what he can put together.
The rooms were threadbare, like some genteel family had fallen on hard times and had to sell anything that was of value. The place was reasonably clean but not spotless. There are fireplaces in the rooms but they don't light them as the rooms were painted recently. Since it was December we asked for room heaters but they had only one and that too could not do much of a job in such a large room, with warping windows letting cold air seep in.
As far recreation on the property is concerned, there is TV, you can play in the garden provided you bring your own gear, and there is a carrom board. If you want to anything else that is promised on their site, make sure you have it spelled out clearly when you book. If you want to fish they will get you permission at Rs.2000/- per head but you need to arrange for gear and transport. If you want a bonfire you must pay Rs. 1000/-, you need to carry your golf gear and check which facility you can use. If they have a VIP visit on their property then you will not have access to most of these spots.
The alternative is to stay at the cottages (not rooms) at the High Range Club if you have a reciprocal membership from some other club. The rates are reasonable, the food homely but more variety, there are more facilities on the grounds for children and adults. Of course you won't have that "away from the world" feeling.
It is also useful if you know some tea estate manager, who can make arrangements to make your experience in Munnar substantially better and different from the usual tourist routine.

An amazing place with old world charm of the Bristish Era, Big rooms, awesome service including delicious homely meals, fantabulous landscaping (exotic flowers all around apart from the stunning tea garden where you can walk around) and everything else that makes your holiday in munnar a memorable one. If you are looking for a pool, tv, gym, etc. please do not come here. But if you want to explore Munnar and have a peaceful and comfortable stay, dont look beyond the Tea Sanctuary. Cant thank the staff enough for making our holiday so memorable ! This place deserves to be in top 3 for the wonderful location, service and ambience.

The Tea Sanctuary, as the name suggests is exactly that- a sanctuary from our hectic and stressful lives. It is set amidst lush tea plantations and literally could be called the back of beyond.
And yet, the butler, Mr Rajmani- who keeps an impeccable place along with serving excellent food and Mr Punderaj; it feels like a home away from home.

We stayed at the Chokhanad Bungalow- an old colonial bungalow with two huge bedrooms, a sitting area- all these complete with working fireplaces; a writing area, a dining area proudly showing off the nice china and an immaculate kitchen.
One could opt for ordering food with their supplies or just buying the supplies and getting food prepared- exactly the way you want it!

Please do not expect the plushness of a five star hotel; but this small personal heritage property would give any sterile five star a run for their money.

It is a surreal experience to be living amidst thoudands of acres of tea plantations- with a full license to wild elephants to roam the land in peace! My one and four year old had a fabulous time breathing the fresh air, eating the fresh food and running around on paths along the hotel.

But phone junkies and internet surfers beware- there is no reception except for BSNL.

It is an old-British-style cottage in the middle of a tea estate. The most notable of this place is the location, with wonderful views from the hill-top.

The gentleman who took care of us was also very kind and accommodating - the meals he preparerd for us were delicious and varied as well.

It is a very unique, charming hotel - however this place is not for you if you're looking for luxury of 4 to 5- star hotels.

The Tea Sanctuary comprises recently refurbished old bungalows that were used by the European inhabitants. One can glimpse the scenic vistas of Munnar Valley from here. It would not be any embellishment to say that a stay at these bungalows is an experience in itself. All the facilities are provided here, to offer a luxurious stay to the guests. Due to its vast green periphery, there were many honeymooners present

My friend and I stayed here and loved every second of it. We had the Chokanad Bungalow, which came with a cook and staff person, both of whom were incredibly sweet and catered to every request. They really went above and beyond all my expectations! The setting is completely unbeatable and the bungalows are much, much larger than I expected, with a study, living room, dining room and kitchen. The bedrooms were huge. It was also super clean and was in fact one of the few places in India where I felt comfortable eating raw vegetable salads because the cook was clearly so mindful of cleanliness. I would definitely stay here again!
